It's all about cheeks in the seats...

ProsThere's lots of opportunity for advancement. And you do not need a teriminal degree to teach or TI become an administrator, although it helps. When your at the corporate headquarters, they make you feel like you can be 100% successful in your role and I found my counter parts in other cities to be wonderfully helpful & supportive.

ConsCorporate management allowed bad management practices to go on for months before reacting. They were more concerned with hitting student attendance goals then about anything else- including whether or not the students were qualified to actually be in college. I saw large amounts of students who could barely read or write being allowed to register or continue with classes, when they were on academic probation. They had a terrible campus director who violated policy, was inappropriate with staff members & all around incompetent who was allowed to go unchecked for months- provided he was making quota.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't focus so much on enrollment quotas if your campuses aren't up to snuff. Get your house in order first, and the students will follow.

ProsSalary, and the majority of the people were nice. You are granted 2 weeks of vacation right away, and your benefits start day one.

ConsManagement sets unrealistic goals that were impossible to meet. Everyone besides management hates there jobs, and you will recognize this day one.

Advice to Senior ManagementSet realistic goals and don't fire people at the drop of a hat. Don't put people on plans and not let them know they are on plans.

Easy desk job - but comes with it's share of headaches.

    Student Finance Advisor (Current Employee)
    Wood Dale, IL

ProsEasy job for the most part. Not a whole lot of stress, and if you're looking to get a free degree (undergrad or masters) this might be a good fit. You sit at a desk making inbound and outbound calls while using a multitude of web-based applications to help students with their student aid.

ConsThere are a lot of system issues and different things that go wrong every session. Students tend to be from a lower social class and can be very demanding when they call in. Most of them just call in complaining about why they haven't received their student loan refund. Upward mobility is limited and the pay isn't anything great.

Advice to Senior ManagementFix the internal processes as it makes it so much harder for us to do our jobs efficiently when there are so many issues that take place. Also, make internal departments accountable for their actions when processes do go wrong.
