Great team of attorneys, excellent experience

Paralegal (Current Employee)
Washington, DC

I have been working at Kelley Drye full-time for more than 3 years

ProsWork with a hardworking team of attorneys that take the work seriously, but not themselves
Team-oriented
Fast paced
Multi-faceted

ConsCutting back financially - small raises, no bonuses, cutting staff
some bad apples - but that's everywhere
sometimes poor communication from HR

Advice to Senior ManagementBe clear with all staff; risking being understaffed and overpartnered; need to find the money to make the good people want to stay

Administrative Staff in the DC Office

Administrative Support (Former Employee)
Washington, DC

I worked at Kelley Drye full-time for more than a year

ProsPretty lax environment for a law firm. There are occassional events that keep morale up. Most of the attorneys are great people and can be nice and sometimes outgoing. DC office has a great location. The new managing partner of the DC office is really doing a lot to make it a more enjoyable place to work.

ConsIn general, the support and admin staff come second (if at all) to attorneys. That's par for the course in a law firm though, so its not a major complaint. HR tends to side with attorneys or the more difficult person to deal with if ever a conflict emerges. That doesn't really contribute toward a "teamwork" environment. HR can sometimes lord over paralegals and secretaries, which can make a sometimes stressful job even more so. Pay raises are given sparsely (to non-legal staff), and there is a general reluctance to promote employees to new positions or cross train them. Would not recommend for entry level.

Advice to Senior ManagementHR should work more on behalf of the employees rather than the partnership.

A decent place to start given the market, but not a good place to build a career unless you land in a premier practice

Associate (Current Employee)
Washington, DC

I have been working at Kelley Drye full-time for more than 10 years

ProsCertain people within the firm are striving to make it better and to understand and improve weaknesses; generally high quality staff

ConsLack of a definitive firm culture; culture varies by office (which is normal) and by practice group within each office; partners within certain practice groups operate as silos--very little interest in developing attorneys; many (if not most) partners operate within an eat what you kill mentality

Advice to Senior ManagementLook at the declining numbers and understand what they mean and respond; need to respond better to the market

A great place to work. Sorry I left when I did.

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Kelley Drye

ProsKelley Drye was a wonderful place to work. I worked in the IT department and it was more like a family than co-workers. I admit my haste in leaving. I thought I was leaving for advancement purposes. It was a mistake.

ConsDepartment restructuring could have gone more smoothly.

Advice to Senior ManagementThank you for a great experience.
