I worked at Kelley Drye full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Where do I begin? I worked at Kelley Drye for 17 years as a Legal Administrative Assistant in the Litigation Dept. Over the years, I worked for many attorneys from associates to partners. Being with a firm that many years, I considered this great team more than co-workers, but family. I learned many skills and was treated like an vital member of the legal team. I left the firm so that I could try my hand at working in a large in-house legal dept. of a corporation for a General Counsel. I will always remember my friends at KDW. Benefit package was very good. Annual holiday parties, cocktail parties and summer picnics were enjoyable.

    Cons

None that I can think of.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

7 hour day for DC office to follow NY & Chicago -- our commute is as bad if not worse than those cities.

I worked at Kelley Drye full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Pretty lax environment for a law firm. There are occassional events that keep morale up. Most of the attorneys are great people and can be nice and sometimes outgoing. DC office has a great location. The new managing partner of the DC office is really doing a lot to make it a more enjoyable place to work.

    Cons

In general, the support and admin staff come second (if at all) to attorneys. That's par for the course in a law firm though, so its not a major complaint. HR tends to side with attorneys or the more difficult person to deal with if ever a conflict emerges. That doesn't really contribute toward a "teamwork" environment. HR can sometimes lord over paralegals and secretaries, which can make a sometimes stressful job even more so. Pay raises are given sparsely (to non-legal staff), and there is a general reluctance to promote employees to new positions or cross train them. Would not recommend for entry level.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

HR should work more on behalf of the employees rather than the partnership.
