I worked at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Really good people. They have great training programs. High integrity to do the right thing. Open environment for sharing of ideas etc. Compensation was competitive for roles. Generally work life balance if fair. Over time this has shifted to more work less family time. it really depends on which leader is in place.

    Cons

Budgets tend to be lean. Also if you are not of the good old boy network you were overlooked despite favorable business results. Living in Battle Creek is tough if you are use to a more metropolitan area. Also if you are a person of color it is very difficult to be fully accepted by the community. They talk about developing their people but overall they develop few stars. This is evident in their lack of bench talent.

I worked at Kellogg Company as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Exposure to a lot of the managers and being able to have meetings with them. Work was not too bad, very relaxed. Relaxed working environment and team oriented.

    Cons

Managers did not put much planning toward the internship and trying to retain interns for future employment upon graduation. Work is very repititive, and would not recommend this internship to a friend.

I worked at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and work life balance. Summer hours on Fridays are also a plus. Encouragement and openness to explore different areas of the business domestically.

    Cons

Lack of young professionals not being in a metropolitan area. No encouragement to take advantage of working overseas for being such a large, international company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need clearer communication in regards to company strategy and the changes ahead to ensure alignment and confidence from employees.

R&D is a great environment but the business side of it seems a mess. Battle Creek and surrounding area subtract from any benefits of working for Kellogg.

I have been working at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers, managers that are eager to develop employees, and lots of free food. They are really working to make sure employees have enough time outside of work to get things done. Kellogg tries very hard to match their actions to what their views are and sometimes they succeed.

Pay is on the higher end of the pay scale but they sometimes make you come in at a lower level to "gain experience".

    Cons

Battle Creek and the surrounding area are no place for someone unmarried and/or without children and offer few jobs for spouses of those who are married. The Kalamazoo area has gotten a little better in the last few years but not to the point of being able to hold on to top talent. Everything is a drive and the towns basically shut down during the winter. Unless you love hunting, fishing, or farming there isn't much year-round fun to be had.

On top of this a massive reorganization is happening (plant closings, consolidating jobs, etc.) and everyone is on edge. There was a large population of folks that had been with Kellogg for 25+ years when I first started but this reorg is either convincing them to retire or forcing them to causing a rather large brain drain across the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be open to change. Just because "it's the Kellogg way" does not mean it's correct or the only way of doing something.

I have been working at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Kellogg has a fantastic history with a culture and set of values that really do guide how we do business. We are very much focused on the customer and the consumer and creating the best brands and products for them. The company is also very focused on the community (fundraising campaigns, end hunger and sustainable farming initiatives and company sponsored volunteer opportunities). I love working here and have been very fortunate to be given many significant opportunities to develop and grow.

    Cons

I think that work/life balance is a bit of a challenge, but let's be real- great companies expect a lot from their employees, and I don't think the expectations are out of line with what you would find at any company of this caliber. Also, the leadership is very aware of this issue and honestly makes an effort to correct/address it. We have fun events scheduled throughout the year, summer hours (Friday afternoons off), and work-from-home opportunities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to recognize, invest in, and develop talent- and at all levels. It creates loyal, enthusiastic, hard-working employees!

I have been working at Kellogg Company full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Opportunities to grow and develop yourself and your career; Flexibility in ways of working - new work anywhere program supported by leadership; Harworkers are recognized; Leadership support individual goals as well as company goals; Best place I have worked and hope to stay here for a while.

    Cons

In some functions people do have to work long hours at times - leadership are trying to address with various schemes and initiatives. More opportunities to make employees feel engaged - some areas do this well, some not so well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in training and development. On the job training is great but it would be good to see some programs for employees and not just leadership. Great leadership development for those at the top.

I have been working at Kellogg Company as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible hours, quiet office environment, ample opportunity to grow within the company, dedicated training

    Cons

It appears there is a bit of disconnect between upper levels and management and lower level employees. The "vision" of the company seems to change more often than one would expect.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it more clear how individual departments within the company can contribute to the overall vision of the company.
