Pros
Very friendly co-workers, I have been here for over 3 years and have never seen poor behavior by anyone.
Cons
It is a very large corporation so it does take some work in getting acknowledged by upper management.
Advice to Senior Management
I would suggest a more fun and outgoing work environment
Pros
Very big company with many oppurtunities.
Cons
Salary start is very low, compared to other companies
Pros
Care about where you want to go with your career within Kelly.
Cons
Low pay for the amount of duties.
Pros
My coworkers were fun and energetic. We were only required to work Monday through Friday and we had holidays off. We also got paid every Friday.
Cons
There weren't very many opportunities due the economy in Michigan. The projects didn't last very long either, maybe three or four months, at the most.
When I requested to have one day off for my son's 1st birthday, I was told that I couldn't because there were too many requests from other employee's that weekend. I even asked two weeks in advance. They did meet me have way and let me leave early.
Advice to Senior Management
Try to be a little more understanding when it comes to an employee wanting to celebrate their only child's first birthday. It does only happen once in a lifetime, after all.
Pros
Nice co-workers and a laid back atmosphere.
Cons
Micromanagement, too many layers of management, $$$$ benefits package, very political.
Advice to Senior Management
Kelly does not fire their problem people.
Pros
very strong culture at corporate; consistent company strategy; good promotional/growth opportunities; very friendly colleagues
Cons
doesn't change quickly enough; owner/chairman still involved so decisions can be watered down (people are still afraid of TA); can be political - having sponsors is important; tough economy has been tough on Kelly
Advice to Senior Management
pay the field more - it will stem some of the turnover issues; spend more time on your culture...you have a good thing going and should promote it more
Pros
Kelly employees strive to find opportunities that will work for their temporary employees. They are very good at providing client information and skills required for the job. They are great at giving feedback on completed jobs.
Cons
The job market in Detroit has been terrible lately and jobs are scarce.
Advice to Senior Management
No advice at this time.
Pros
I had no complaints about the pay. Kelly offered a decent pay with a decent bonus. Annual raises seemed to be the norm. I had a short commute. Co-workers were knowledgeable. For the most part they were financially stable at least when I was there. Diverse revenue stream - meaning not reliant on a single industry or customer.
Cons
I was bored with my position within two weeks of employment. I would admit that a lot people said I was crazy for complaining, but I was at different stage in my career and wanted to gain a lot of technical experience via big projects or troubleshooting various complex issues. The work was slow and tedious. Looking back it was great if you were going to school or studying for a certification. I was looking for 3rd level network engineering design and project work but they have a architecture team (two people) who designed everything and did not include the respective teams such as UNIX, Windows or Networking. I was just told to implement. Also a lot of things were outsourced - like WAN and VPN and Internet Routing so it did not leave much for me to get my hands on.
The company itself was surprisingly frugal and behind on technology. No refrigerators to store lunches from home. All the microwaves were in the cafeteria which was not close to my desk by any means. My chair at my desk was terrible as far as ergonomics go. Alot of other people had the fancy ergonomically correct chairs and when I asked my manager he said that they were $600 bucks and that was too expensive for his budget. Keep in mind he had one though. I later discover in the telephone closet about two dozen of these chairs just collecting dust - literally!! Of course I snagged one and took it to my desk.
Advice to Senior Management
None really to offer. My issues were more so related to what I want and didn't want in my career at the time. The job was great for a lot of people - just not me.
Pros
Very welcoming environment, encourage career advancement in terms of both vertical and horizontal mobility.
Cons
I haven't found any downsides yet!
Advice to Senior Management
They seem to be doing a very good job at running a sound company. Even in this poor economy they are still hiring
Pros
Good ethics and expanded company. Company is over 60 years old and was oldfashioned and stodgy for a long time. New managment, new strategic plan, and new culture. Lots of speed now and many opportunities for people with new ideas. Most of the world's biggest companies are customers, so lots of cool projects to work on.
Cons
Employment is currently in decline in US and Western Europe. So, staffing is declining in sales now in many countries. Recessions really beat on sales. While being updated, a lot of the IT infrastructure is out date. Living in Michigan in the Winter can be depressing.
Advice to Senior Management
