Good first job, but not a great one to stay at.

I worked at Kemah Boardwalk part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The people you work with are most likely the people you will end up being very close friends with and everybody is very friendly and helpful to one another.

    Cons

Too much work for little pay. I feel bad for parking attendants in the summer. Kemah gets short-staffed easily because they hire a bunch of teenagers who are not capable of having the responsibility to show up to work. Therefore everybody who DOES show up, suffers the consequence of angry, sweaty customers who wait in line too long and not very understanding managers who demands more sales from workers who can barely get their breaks in on time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would say to hire better employees and also put managers and supervisors through a leadership training so that they know that harsh words are not the only way to get employees to do a better job and to also listen to their employees and their suggestions and opinions.

    Pros

Get some experience working somewhere and meet new friends.

    Cons

Too many hours and labor and not paid the amount should have gotten. All managers only care about the money and saving their butts I.e. someone else take the shift because the managers don't want to and because their short staffed. Only break in a double shift is 15 minutes all day. Don't bother working in the busy season and the slow season there's definitely not enough hours at all. Beware and get a job somewhere else! Too many kids work here and don't take the job seriously so a bunch of problems happen. Its just like in high school. Annoying young naive kids.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Whenever an employee does a good job, give them better praises and reward them. Treat employees with respect and act like you care at least!

    It's a terrible job

    Pros

Easy to move up in the company, you meet great people.

    Cons

You get paid minimum wage, you rarely get breaks, the managers don't care about anyone. Kemah is all about the money. Your always gonna get scheduled a double because they're short staffed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe if you treated your employees better you wouldn't have to worry about being short staffed.

    Horrible

    Pros

Absolutely nothing. Training is mediocre, the hours were crap (working 35+ hours per week at 16 years old), and no recognition for what you do right.

    Cons

Micromanagement is out of control, you get very minimal training, sometimes it seemed like you were set up to fail. Too many hours, employees are not respected at all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Do better.
