I have been working at KemperSports full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

A decent company to work for if your looking to break into the industry of golf or restaurant mgmt. They offer terrific benefits with BCBS and like any company, they offer 2 weeks paid vacation and sick time.

    Cons

I have worked at 3 different Kemper properties and the office culture is completely out-of-whack respectively between them. Management at each of these properties was young, immature and fairly inexperienced. I got the feeling at each location that the general idea was to "just fill positions with warm bodies that we don't have to pay very much for". Its a highly micro-managed environment with too many chiefs and not enough Indians. In addition, I personally witnessed how Mgmt. would make promises to employees that were never intended to be fulfilled and how hour's worked would be shaved off in order to save money through the budget. There was also an element of favoritism in play at each location which I could see made it difficult for others to achieve their goals. If your looking for advancement, you'll have to be willing to transfer and relocate and you shouldn't expect to receive any additional forms of compensation for your efforts.....that money is divided amongst top mgmt. at each location in the form of bonuses and raises.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hiring young people might seem like a good idea because their energetic and they come cheap, however in the long-run, you know dam well that's gonna bite you in the arse through inexperience. Learn how to access the value your employees in order to make the most use of them rather than just fill positions with 'warm bodies'. Also, I believe the hiring practices need to be updated....at one location for example, two of the employees had drug problems and I was told that one of them was knowingly hired like that AND...another employee was convicted of felony gun charges YET was still working there pending his scheduled prison time!! I was floored when I heard that!!

I worked at KemperSports full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

One of the biggest pro's is the benefit packages offered. They use blue cross and there are plenty offices to choose from.

    Cons

With any management company you will not truly know the financial state of the club. With that being said, if the club's finances are not good you will probably find out (if your job position is at risk) bad news with no warning.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management needs to be more honest with their employees and give them better tools to use to accomplish the goals at hand.

Too many chiefs. There's like only two or three indians in the whole place.

I worked at KemperSports full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The insurance coverage was pretty good. My paycheck never bounced.

    Cons

The commission schedule for membership sales was comical. The average membership lasts almost ten years and has a lifetime value of tens of thousands of dollars. "Here's $50".

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Way too many regional managers and Vice Presidents. Decrease home office salaries and increase salaries of those actually doing the work.

    Cons

not alot of upward opportunities if you choose not to move.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at KemperSports full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, good accrued vacation system, 401k, excellent health and dental.

    Cons

We were bought by a new company and the Kemper Contract wasn't renewed, nothing they could have done. It was a real shame.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would suggest formal sales training for all sales directors, just because selling a golf course and banquet facility can be very different from other sales jobs, to aid in the transition or give a refresher to those who need to have their skills refreshed.

    Pros

Beautiful area to live, mild weather. Contact with people from all over the world. Good health benefits.

    Cons

Extremely low pay. Bonuses for management only, no pay increases given to most employees. Unfair practices, favortism, not able to advance your career unless you are a favorite employee of a manager. Work hours are inconsistent, work days are also inconsistent. The management does not have experience managing, only golfing. No advancement opportunities given to most employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees fairly, pay what the employee is worth, give increases yearly and christmas bonus' to all employees.
