Pros
The best reason to work at Kennametal is that all employees treat each other as a family members. They help you with anything and everything. Managers recognize the work you do and give you the reward for the great work. You learn really interesting stuff at Kennametal that you wouldn't learn from any college.
Cons
They don't give out relocation housing allowances for interns/ co-op.
Pros
It's a very innovative company. It prides itself on hiring the best employees within their fields. I strives to be the best in its industry. Good people to work with, who always try to help in any way. They were also very personable.
Cons
The company is a little old school with their hierarchy structure. A lot of their processes in various departments are slow and bureaucratic. The location is also not too great if you want to be in a metropolitan area. The hiring process was a debacle. It was a bad first impression of how they conduct business. I also had very little direction. It didn't seem like my superiors thought about what to do with me before I got there.
Advice to Senior Management
Move things along quicker. Stop having lengthy, time-wasting meetings about every little thing.
Pros
You get to travel to several different companies, understand their best practices. Very wide range of products. Interaction with teams from around the world on a weekly basis
Cons
Long work hours, possibly on weekends too when travelling. The market is often price driven, rather than being quality driven.
Pros
The staff are great people to work with. They are very understanding of everything and only want the best for you. If you are a motivated individual the sky is the limit for you.
Cons
Work days can be long
Pros
I have a job to pay the bills
Cons
treated unfair on a daily basis, their is no such thing as senority, they try to get things done by threats unfair acts, God only now how they come up with how they chose the recently selected "groupy leaders" thats just a few
Advice to Senior Management
Revamp the entire leadman, so called supervisors, and group leaders to old hands who have the experience and people skills and actually care about people and product quality. This place is going down very fast, if the job market where better you would lose over 50% of employes overnight.
Wake up you people
Pros
Good workplace, good management, excellent colleagues and quick improvement and nice hike in salary and vacation. Nice cafeteria and nice people
Cons
Less starting salary when compared to other similar places, Colleagues are of the 35-60 age category with a majority on the 45-60 range. Experienced people but take a long time to pass things.
Pros
Decent pay. Good overtime for some departments. You have to really screw up big time to get fired(which might be considered a "con" too) They are really understanding about fitting your home life with work. They let me take long lunches when I took college classes, and let me come in late when I need to pick up my kids. Good tuition reimbursement program. They paid tens of thousands of dollars for my BS and encouraged me to get it, even though my job barely requires a HS Diploma. They seem to be good about letting one advance if they are willing to move around the country.
Cons
A lot of politics goes on here. The people who wine/tattle/b*tch the most get their way. They are also overzealous about safety, or at least appearing to be safe. It's to the point where it is getting hard to do our jobs.
Advice to Senior Management
I think that they should bring back the bonus program or at least have some type of profit sharing program. I understand that times were tough for a while, but we seem to be getting tons of sales recently. Some kind of bonus system would motivate us to do what is in the best interests of the owners and management, and work towards a profitable company, not just getting hours.
Pros
Kennametal had good benefits. Decent pay, and was an interesting place to work (depending on the division you are in).
Cons
Parent company was constantly changing management of the different divisions, crappy raises, and I had a terrible manager. No communication until after things are already decided.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people at the bottom. Do things to show them that you actually care about what is going on. The people make the company.
Pros
9am - 5pm job
lots of onsite opportunities
Cons
Low take home salary , but very fat CTC
Advice to Senior Management
Show some respect to your employees
Pros
Great location(except for young, singles)! Global opportunities. Very fair pay and benefits. Management understanding of work/life balance. Great people to work with.
Cons
Lack of standard processes. Influence of IT on the operation of the business. Somewhat engineering led company at the expense of being customer oriented.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep the focus on the customer and the company financials. Provide clearer vision of overall strategy and direction for the company.
