I have been working at Kennametal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Culture, pay, benefits, people, broad product range

    Cons

Very unorganized political company, no given direction, training on product is non-existent, more of a figure it out yourself and move forward, longest on-boarding ever!!

    Advice to Management

Train!! Train!! Train and retrain your employees!! Confidence with the job and support behind personnel and product is key to success.. You don't provide either, misdirection and constant change causes confusion, poor planning in territorial assignments. Most products are out of date and not kept up with competitive products. Former leader in industry with a lot of development, but managers dont realize that their competitors have caught up to their "grand idea" of best in class when they are in actuality just like the next guy

I have been working at Kennametal full-time

    Pros

    Talented people. Dedicated individuals

    Cons

Poor managers. Managers are former engineers who need training. Hostile work environment. Lack of focus.

    Advice to Management

Need to advocate teamwork. Get rid of people who lead to toxic work environment. Hire more people. Be more focused and strategic. Invest in medium term R&D.

    Pros

Nice cafeteria, nice bathrooms, good co-workers, good lower level managers.

    Cons

Large company, clueless senior management, somewhat noxious work-environment.

    Advice to Management

Before making decisions that will cost people their jobs, would you kindly take a moment to first think?

I worked at Kennametal full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Severance package was offered when position eliminated. I can't think of any other pros.

    Cons

Kennametal bought out my former employer and pretty much immediately dismantled my entire department. I don't think they did a good job of allowing options for the many employees that had been in their roles a very long time. They just eliminated positions, with the pretense that everyone would be fine and after working individuals and departments extremely hard to help with the transition and then laying them off.

    Pros

The people, whether recently hired or "lifers," are generally excellent to work with. I have enjoyed most of the new relationships I have built. The pay is not out of line for similar jobs. The bathrooms and break room are kept in spectacular condition.

    Cons

There is zero career advancement opportunity. Kennametal is very good at "dangling the carrot" to keep people around but the only advancement opportunities are from within the customer service field. Forward, progressive thinking is frowned upon. Overachieving and excellent need not apply here. Mediocrity is celebrated. Some (not ALL) of management can be very close minded and condescending. The general feel of the office is that employees are treated like children (i.e. assigned seating, assigned lunch breaks, STRICT attendance policy, socializing is discouraged).

    Advice to Management

Be more open-minded to the ever changing work-place. This is not the 1980's or even the 90's anymore. You don't foster a thriving workplace by stifling creativity, talking down to your employees and, for all intents and purposes, discouraging any kind of employee socialization.

I have been working at Kennametal full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great benefits and are family oriented for the most part . There are many great people who work here.Very safe enviroment.

    Cons

Departments are very separated from one another. There is a strong disconnect between management and personnel. This leads to poor operating procedures and ultimately low morale. Enviroment can be very stressful due to inefficient processes. Career development and advancement is extremely poor.

    Advice to Management

Lead by example. Recognize the talent you have and utilize it to be advantageous for both the company AND that employee. Consructive criticism and employee feedback are belittled and ignored.

    Pros

    Good benefits and resonable pay.

    Cons

Not good work/life balance. Priorities change almost every day. The preformance review process is a joke.

    Advice to Management

You have some excellent people working for you. Need to value input from the subject matter expert... believe and trust them. You should personally thank your reportees at least once a month. Be sencere. Not scheduled, just on the fly.
