I worked at Kensington full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I always liked the ever-changing products that changed with the times...new iPhone & iPad accessories. Cool new computer accessories, etc. Even my managers were great to work for and I always wanted to do well for them. Unfortunately, that's where it stops...

    Cons

As other reviewers of this company have said, it seems as though Kensington is always one step short of creating that AWESOME product. A lot of products came off the shelf from overseas, even though there's an R&D facility just over the border in Canada. Each product launch had some "fatal" flaw that couldn't set them apart from the competition. And while I loved my direct managers, the ones above them didn't seem to "get it." Sales quotas would be handed down with no knowledge of the specific account or current sales environment. And they were always pushing accounts to load up on inventory to hit that unattainable sales number only to be left chasing that number again the next quarter.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your people!! You have a lot of smart, talented employees who's opinions are valuable. This used to be a fun place to work & morale is so low...you gotta pick it up!

  2. Low morale, poor leadership vision, sinking ship - do not work here!

I worked at Kensington full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Legacy brand name from security products; interesting product portfolio on the surface

    Cons

Kensington sells "me too" products sourced from Asia and faces too much competition to come close to achieving the unrealistic sales goals that are handed down from the management team. The company is held to sales goals that are pulled from thin air, with no strategy outside of stuffing their Distributors full of product and applying pressure on the team to move the product through. Sales are down across the board and that will continue for the foreseeable future.

    Advice to Management

Strategy needs to be completely overhauled from the top down. Product development needs to become a priority vs. sourcing products from Asia that everybody else can access. Sales goals should be based on forecast data and not on whatever number the CEO needs to hit to look good to shareholders. Until this happens morale will remain in the basement and good people will continue to leave for better opportunities.

    I worked at Kensington full-time

    Pros

It's a small office and benefits are decent

    Cons

    - Not innovative enough, basically repackaging asian goods and taking them to market.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of some the people that have been there for a very long time and have not much value add. Get more of the design work done yourself

I worked at Kensington full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good work/life balance - they understand that you have other responsibilities and interests outside of work. Excellent benefits, due to the large parent company relationship. Beautiful office space in a great mid-peninsual location. Well known brand name that opens doors for you when working with suppliers and customers.

    Cons

Very conservative culture passed down from the parent company. Slow to make decisions and not a lot of accountability when deadlines are missed. Lack of follow through on initiatives from the top down. No career development help offered by management, so you are completely on your own to figure out what comes next.

    Advice to Management

Follow through on the plans you share with the rest of the business. Take a greater interest in development the careers of your employees.

    I worked at Kensington full-time

    Pros

Benefits are ok and the lower level employees are hard working and have great ideas.

    Cons

Management constantly changing direction and rarely do individual contributors get recognized for hard work, people in "powerful" positions treat employees very poorly simply because they can.

    Advice to Management

    Value your employees

    Pros

Established company with long standing channel partner relationships. Some brand recognition.

    Cons

No desire to gain insights on consumer needs and problems to deliver market innovation and value. Damaged brand, with no desire to put in effort to repair.

    Advice to Management

Operational excellence is not a sustainable strategy. Neither is a buy-sell mentality.

    Pros

    Benefits, vacation, 401k - that's about it.

    Cons

Due to silo management style decision making, many people have thrown in the towel because it caused so much flux and stress in the company. Dysfunctional organization, doesn't have a strategy, management don't care to stick or implement processes and make jobs efficient. Just get it done - somehow and right away! Some people are very disrespectful and have big egos. Wouldn't recommend working here, but if you do - good luck.

    Advice to Management

Get your game plan in sync with all stakeholders and stop wasting time when things needs to get done.
