    Negative Outlook

    Pros

The compensation is about average for similar industry positions and the benefits are decent. The medical coverage is probably less expensive than most.
There is opportunity to learn about several aspects of the company and its processes. Many of the employees are willing to help you.

    Cons

There is almost no training provided. You learn everything by trial and error, and by being inquisitive.
Getting to the real cause of a problem is very difficult and frustrating because the various shops are afraid to take responsibility.
New business development is rare and the culture seems to stifle innovation.
Promotion is very rare, but that is partly due to the small size of the company.

    Advice to Management

    1. The culture needs to change so that attention to detail in all areas becomes second nature. Employees need to be valued for who they are, not just for their skills.
    2. Develop a clear Mission Statement that explains what the company exists to accomplish, and a Vision Statement that describes the strategic future of the company.
    3. Managers need to actually conduct and document meaningful performance reviews.
    4. Develop some incentive programs that recognize employees for great work, such as an "Employee of the Month" for example, and make it a goal worth achieving. Clearly define the criteria.

  2. It was interesting but a somewhat disfunctional company.

    Pros

As a small company you didn't just work on one narrowly focussed job.

    Cons

Management didn't work well together and there was almost no plan to improve anything.

    Advice to Management

Continual improvement - for employees, technology, performance, and quality.
