I worked at Key Energy Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Key has many friendly, hard working, committed employees. Safety is highly valued at the highest levels.

    Cons

Key has a fear-based culture. Interdepartmental accountability is rare. Fast turnaround is valued over quality work product. There is little employee development and low morale. Ineffective and costly business decisions are made by senior leadership, with the fiscal remedy being to cut bonuses and reduce work force. Some senior leaders have rather large egos that, if not fed, lead to a more difficult work life.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop, support, and increase loyalty to employees. Admit when mistakes are made. All of these improve morale, build trust, increase retention, and create a more productive environment.

I worked at Key Energy Services as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Good size company with room to grow in your career.

    Cons

I was a short term consultant but for the short time and the experience left me feeling empty. Not the team environment, warm fuzzy fealing I have received from other consulting roles but again it was a short term project.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More focus on employee moral/personal growth is needed.

I have been working at Key Energy Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are good hard working people here. You are taken care of as much as possible. Key strives to hire the best that it can. They were plagued with poor management desicions in the beginning but over the years they have slowly rectified those mistakes and are gearing up for a good team to be on in ND.

    Cons

If you have worked in the oilfield the flow of work is unstable. Same here at Key Energy some months may be slow then the next thing you know your working your tail off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retention is key keep the employees you have. Make yourself competitive with salaries and base pay.

I worked at Key Energy Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Starting salaries are competitive + a sign-on bonus. They pay for your bus ticket or parking.

    Cons

No leadership. Some incompetent people with personal agendas lead the company. Tone at the top seems to be don't ask, don't tell.
There are a lot of reductions in force as a knee jerk reaction to the financial situation of the Company only to go on a hiring spree soon after. A while later, the cycle repeats. Salary increases are not the norm. Many complained of not getting salary increases for years. Too many "Egos" at the top. High turn-over.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop manipulating the truth and protecting incompetent managers. Focus on what you know best and take care of your most important asset...your employees"

    Pros

They have good insurance and good coworkers. Most of the jobs we do are long hour jobs.

    Cons

Management doesn't accept responsibility for anything! All they do is point fingers and try to place blame everywhere but where it belongs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some bosses who aren't afraid to stand up for the good work their employees do. Limit pushers to finding new work and getting tickets signed.

I have been working at Key Energy Services full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some great and friendly people work at Key. If you are in good graces with the upper tier management all will be good and smooth sailing

    Cons

Extremely cliquish leadership...the only way to grow in this company is to kiss some serious a$$ and step on others on the way up the ladder. It can be the classic management style of "what have you done for me today?" or take credit for what others have done and then when they screw up punish the subservient. People are constantly looking over their shoulders as the powers that be continue to RIF and hire at a crazy pace. It's the ol' jerk the dog on a chain routine, so the "loyalty" is for sure a mirage.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe...just maybe the reason the revenues are like a roller coaster is because it is a direct reflection of the roller coaster you put the employees through? Call me crazy, but if employees are driven because the leadership is clear, honest and loyal the employees will want to produce. If the leadership is dishonest, unclear and disloyal they will not produce. It's pretty simple math really.
