Former Employee – worked at Keynote Systems full-time for more than a year
Pros – Not too big, not too small
The domain is very exciting. SaaS, Intetnet company which sounds very good and exciting
Cons – Departments are so disconnected from each other, it's like you work for totally different companies. Some managers who are there since last ten yrs or so (very few are left) think that they own the company and are trying to run their individual departments in a complete eccentric ways. There's no communication whatsoever with upper management. They seem too complacent with whatever success they got. Depends on which department you join, you could get a completely different view and experience.
Advice to Senior Management – Bring back the zeal, passion, Get some excitement for everyone!! Make an effort to reach out to your employees beyond some freaks who think they can control everyone below the way they want

Former Employee – worked at Keynote Systems full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – work life balance at only 60 work hours a week
Cons – no life due to 60 work hours a week
salary cuts
no raises
sup-par salaries compared to industry standards (HR should do more to research this but they are filing their nails)
Advice to Senior Management – Cultures and Values: Live what you speak, you listen to customers needs but not ours. You talk a good game but don't follow through with employees. VPs should take a good look at their departments and just for a moment get their head out of cloud or..... wherever it is. Open you eyes and see where the problems are:
Great Departments:
-Product Managment
-Engineering
-Operations
-Finance
Needs Improvement:
-Marketing
-Sales & Support
-Human Resources

Former Employee – worked at Keynote Systems full-time for more than a year
Pros – Work/Life balance is good.
People are friendly and want to be helpful.
Relatively flat organization.
Management is accessible.
Has a big company feel as they are a public company.
Cons – Pace is slow for a tech company.
Retention appears to be good, but seems that turnover is higher for such a small company.
For what the company does as a business, it doesn't appear to be innovative.
Not a place to be there long term if you like to be challenged or admired as a "Company to Work for"
Advice to Senior Management – Need to find ways to spur innovation and more aggressive towards growth. Lots of people who are there too long seem to not be challenged, but comfortable in their job.

Former Employee – worked at Keynote Systems
Pros – * The promise of working for an Internet company attracts talented people
* Most co-workers are great -- they have a strong work ethic and are competent team players
* Stable company with good work facilities
* Good marketing and branding
Cons – * Limited career and salary growth – company growth is from acquisitions
* Top-down and directive senior management has blind spots
* Micromanagement is a drain and results in turnover
* Crushing workload can intrude on personal life and health
Advice to Senior Management – Just say "no" to micromanagement. Place more value on managers who have the experience and social intelligence to set a realistic workload standard and build trust.
Try opening up a few key decisions to healthy debate at all levels of the organization before solidifying those decisions. It will uncover blind spots and new solutions you didn't consider.

Former Employee – worked at Keynote Systems
Pros – Superior customers - some of the best brands in technology
Great team mates
Interesting, leading edge technologies
Compensation OK but don't plan to sleep - workload is astounding
Cons – Can you say "Oligarchy"?
Some management opinions can be changed with market facts (like Umang) others, not so much
There is obvious infighting within "E staff", requiring initiatives to undergo a lot of "back door" execution. This makes the staff very uncomfortable.
Advice to Senior Management – Be strategic. Changing plans every quarter is unhelpful.
Merge the products. Disconnects and integrations are unprofitable.
Offer training and growth. There is no clarity in how to move within or among departments. Training was a first victim of the economy - make sure to bring that back to the table otherwise your teams remain unimproved.
