I have been working at Kiawah Island Golf Resort full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Employee perks, great co-workers, fun jobs, beautiful work environment, training and development, HR mentors, people are held accountable, interesting guests, STANDARDS, etc.

    Cons

Commute to work - may travel 20 miles but at least you are moving as opposed to sitting in traffic. You will have to work most holidays but that is part of being in hospitality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to allow time for personal development

I worked at Kiawah Island Golf Resort full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Absolutely beautiful environment; great guests; colleagues are wonderful and passionate about what they do; gives employees the opportunity to advance; each employee is empowered to do whatever it takes to make the best guest experience possible

    Cons

Long drive from Charleston; upper management is at times too focused on the bottom line at the expense of updating equipment and systems; uses antiquated technology; Micro management from hotel directors; hypocrisy; pays well below industry standard; is more focused on what Forbes thinks than guest experiences. President too involved in line level decisions at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get new updated software. Operate at your best on a daily basis and stop trying to spot the inspector at every turn. Let the pros do thier jobs (golf doesn't know f&b; f&b doesn't know golf).

I worked at Kiawah Island Golf Resort full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Learned a lot about how a resort works behind the scenes. Fellow employees were mostly great. Good continual training opportunities... if you can find the time to actually go.

    Cons

Extremely long hours, long daily drive, tyrant boss, low pay for the industry. Hard to watch how badly the hourly employees are treated especially the Jamaican's. Can't trust HR...worst judgment I've seen. Owners... The Goodwin's... Cheap and expect impossible perfection... This resort literally runs if a guest is a suspected uncover Forbes inspector while other guests are forgotten. For guests who are suspected... They are treated like Kings and Queens and never know why!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase budget. Treat hourly employees with fairness and dignity. Pay better salaries and you will get higher quality managers. This ocean side building needs better upkeep= $$.

I have been working at Kiawah Island Golf Resort part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

It is a beautiful environment if you can survive the exploitive practices

    Cons

Very immature current management team and HR team who resort to four letter words to "inspire/motivate" employees in light of their inadequate managerial capabilities. Unethical (& illegal) mgmt actions are covered up by HR and Security depts. Their core value system and 5 star rating is all a facade. Majority employees are assigned part time or temporary status so no benefits are paid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Gain some basic human empathy and appreciation for your above average team rather than stripping them of what they have rightfully earned LIKE SENIORITY.

    Pros

Training and Development, KIGR family, you can't beat having access to facilities an services that guests pay a lot of money to use. Employees get most everything at greatly reduced rates. Career opportunities.

You miss it once you leave! I shouldn't have taken another job away from the resort.

    Cons

Bit of a commute but great scenery on the drive!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Move Island closer to Charleston! : )

    Cons

Terrible place to work. At annual "State of the Resort meeting" Roger Warren has said "if you don't like it hee leave, go find another job. You know waht we were paying you when you started". There have not been raised to employees other that managers for SEVEN YEARS!!

I worked at Kiawah Island Golf Resort full-time

    Pros

-Very intensive training that continues throughout your employment.
-Managers that will work hard for you, finding you hours around the island.
-Beautiful island, with many world class amenities that employees have access to.

    Cons

-Does not encourage people to move up, as managers often make considerably less than their employees.
-General lack of communication between the outlets leads to dissonance between departments.
-Managers who are well liked by employees are terminated for cheaper options, heavy turnaround.
    - HR department acts like their PR department, covering up undesirable actions in unethical fashions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If they were to treat the managers with as much respect as the everyday employees, there would not be so much turnaround. This leads to everyday employees enjoying their job, and managers loathing it.
