I have been working at Kier Group

    Pros

It's very close allowing me to cycle in, which saves me money and does a little part towards reducing my carbon footprint. I was welcomed with open arms by my colleagues and I have settled in quite nicely. Kier themselves always do good work and I'm happy to have good engineers to deploy to emergencies over the phone. It makes me happy to work here when residents - usually the elderly ring us back to thank us and the engineer for helping so quickly.

The banter in the office is second to none. The OOH engineers are a funny bunch to be around and they ensure I'm well sated and equipped with a warm drink when they are on standby in the office.

    Cons

The only con is the longevity of the contract I work for and that I'm through the agency on site in Sheffield. Hopefully they have a place for me if the contract go's but I took the job knowing this due to how close to home it is.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lifts - I was contacted by a resident who stated they had been calling all afternoon. We start at 6pm so I don't know why they couldn't reach anyone but luckily it was a stair lift rather than an entrapment.

I have been working at Kier Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

They pay well, expenses and mileage come back quickly enough, the appraisals process works OK, my manager fights my corner, good leave allowance, well respected company engaged in some high profile projects eg. Crossrail.

    Cons

My role appears to be going nowhere fast

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're doing a damn sight better than various previous employers, and I recognise that! I've rated CEO Paul Sheffield as "no opinion" below, because he has left.

I have been working at Kier Group full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The Division I used to work in was very much a close teamed we all worked together to build the business. I finally left the business after 17 years due to the lack of support on a very difficult contract.

    Cons

Some member of top management lack understanding in the day to day business and do not listen or communicate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to people who have been working in the business for many years and have worked through the tough times, and understand the issues they face everyday

I have been working at Kier Group

    Pros

fantastic order book and lots of opportunities

    Cons

lack of training - switching of company structure - lack of flexible working arrangements - still in 19th centrury - lack of autonomy - huge lack of resources - trying to grow too fast

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

modernise the business - allow flexible working - give staff more power to make decisions - allow staff to buy holidays

Current Employee - Finance Assistant in Trowse Newton, England (UK)

I have been working at Kier Group

    Pros

The best points are the pay and holiday days - very generous for a company this size.
Plenty of UK locations to move around too.

    Cons

Completely disorganized - i didn't have a log in for weeks and didn't receive my contract for 3 months.
Poor Management - each team leader have individual ways of leading which causes internal conflict.
The work environment - I work in a mobile with about 50 other staff in the same room. the room shakes when someone walks past. It easily gets too hot or too cold.
Lack of training - most staff have only worked months and barely know their job.
    Very strict office rules

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to boost moral withing the financial shared service office.
Enforce less strict office rules - Nobody wants to feel like they are back at school.
Invest time into training for the job itself.

I have been working at Kier Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Good treatment of individuals. Great variety of projects all over the UK and Overseas. Excellent training and guidance given towards professional chartership.

    Cons

Life/work balance is not the greatest as you may be required to work long hours away from home. Basic salary pay could be better (compared to competitors) for the people who want to work close to home.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Basic salary pay could be better (compared to competitors) for regional sectors or the people who want to work close to home.
