I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time

    Pros

Company is divided into 32 districts. Each has the feel of a smaller company, but you still have the resources of a large corporation. Lots of training, good 401k matching, best insurance coverage in the industry, and lots of opportunities to go different places and move between districts. They really care about furthering your career, you don't just feel like a number. Hours are more than if you were an accountant or a school teacher, but thats part of the industry, and is fine if you have a good attitude and adjust your schedule.

    Cons

Slighty lower than average pay. High overhead.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

I have been working at Kiewit Corporation (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great experience will be gained. Benefits package is one of the industry's best. Safety culture is out of this world.

    Cons

Long hours. Work life balance does not exist. The pay is far from the industry's best. Expect to do your job and the person's just above you in the flow chart.

    Advice to Management

Reevaluate your policy on work life balance. Pay your people a wage that is competitive with other salaries in the industry.

Poor management. Contracts were signed and never followed. Subcontractors working for kiewit were never updated .

I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The company wins alot of contracts with clients. Diverse portfolio of work in different locations. Company offers a 'field premium' when assigned to a project.

    Cons

Long hours. 12 hrs/day was expected without justification. By the way kiewit, you have to pay OT to your employees. Employee pay is far below industry standard.

    Advice to Management

If you want to be an industry leader, treat your people fair. Fair wages, integrity, and honest hiring practice.

I have been working at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The company always tries to keep it's good hands rather than lay-off. Great health care package. I really mean that. Very dedicated to safe work practices.

    Cons

Lack of good vacation accrual, No real bonuses for hourly employees.

    Advice to Management

More opportunity for low level hands to increase bonus pay and chance to mover into upper positions.

I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Offer descent experience at leading projects at or slightly above your pay grade.

    Cons

Have to work a lot of free time to get the job duties done. Thus your real salary is about 60% of nominal. There is a constant promise that OT will someday be compensated, but it never comes to fruition. You are fooled into thinking they are contributing to your 401k, but you are not fully vested unless you work at least 5 years there. There is a 90% chance of laid-off before that. Then you loose the company 401k contribution. (among other benefits)

    Advice to Management

Be more realistic about demands on employees.

I worked at Kiewit Corporation full-time

    Pros

For salaried employees Kiewit has great benefits with low premiums and incentives that help keep the costs even lower. Other companies don't even compare.

    Cons

Kiewit does not treat all employees equally, though, and craft employees get the same benefits but have to pay much, much more for them. Or they can opt for benefits that are much less comprehensive. These are the employees that make less money to begin with. They are the ones that literally break their backs in cold and heat to build the projects Kiewit envisions. How is that fair?

    Advice to Management

You are no better than those who work for you, you wouldn't be in your management position if there were no people to manage. Give craft employees the same benefits for the same price. You can afford it.

    Cons

They will work you to death and don't care. Only promote young engineers, serious age discrimination.

    Advice to Management

They won't take advice unless given by a lawyer and court order.
