Pros
Work opportunities
Exciting projects
Opportunity to learn the Industry
Cons
Work life balance
Lack of holiday leave
Advice to Senior Management
While things are improving, allow employee's a life outside of work
Pros
More responsibility than you can handle. Regular Turnaround schedules. See some pretty cool stuff get built. Salary uplift when working in camp.
Cons
You gotta "Kiss ass" to get to the top. There are groups floating around the top and if you don't get taken under someones wing, you'll get passed over. They are very bad at giving thanks for hard work. You could end up working 15 hours a day for weeks straight and not get a $0.50 raise for the year (I would be expecting a "thank you" and a raise). People at Kiewit, the ones that stick around, are the type that live to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Show some thanks for the people that put in to make your stock worth it. Give me one thing to brag about to my friends as tp how good Kiewit treats its people.
Pros
This is a company that will be around in 20 years with great opportunities for advancement and the opportunity to become an emloyee owner. A great place to get experience as many other employers are looking for kiewit trained people.
Cons
Often times the sacrifices are greater than the compensation. Too many hours and week ends.Upper management needs to do a better job sharing the wealth.
Advice to Senior Management
Stay focused on what made this company great.
Pros
Good exposure to field engineering
60+ hr weeks are great to cover your student loans
Cons
No work life balance
Kiewit employees generally have an attitude in the office and in the field
Very hard to deal with constant arguments with supervisors
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more people to take some load of of your employees.
Pros
-Great Place to Work after school
-Learn lots fast
-Given lots of responsibility
-Great Pay
-good group of people in vancouver
Cons
-Long LONG Hours.
-Not enough staff with experience to go to for help.
-Weekends belong to kiewit when required.
-Can be relocated within days
Advice to Senior Management
Provide more guidance
Pros
-Decent Salary
-Sky is the Limit for career advancement (if you are willing to work)
-Minimal politics
-No time for boredom
Cons
-Long Hours
-High stress
-Salary lags behind responsibility (but it does come eventually)
-Kiewit is your life; you may forget that you have a wife, friends, family, dog
Advice to Senior Management
-Pick up some smaller jobs to go along with the megaprojects so that junior engineers can have a place to grow and develop.
-Switch engineers roles every 6 months to year (ie. from Earthworks to structures to D&S) so as to prevent feeling stagnant.
Pros
A sense of accomplishment because of the large well-known projects that one gets to work on.
Pay is very well due to the long hours. Hourly wage is a bit below a 40 hour job though.
Kiewit is an excellent place for young engineers to gain construction experience which is very practical for consulting engineering.
Kiewit offers a lot of in house training from on-site training to going to Omaha for week long courses. All expense paid.
Get an extra week off during Christmas time when senior management recognizes their employees also have a family and a life outside of work.
Cons
Very long hours, possible shift work and sometimes have to work on weekends.
Advice to Senior Management
Give more time off to employees.
