    Really good work/life balance

    Pros

There are a lot of great departments in the company. Wonderful people to work with and build relationships with. Direct supervising/ managing reports are wonderful. As a place to get experience - ok. Trying to build a career there and move up, not much hope in that.

    Cons

Speaking to their staff honestly should be the next steps that they take. There is way too much subterfuge and not enough reality about how things really are going in the organization.

    Advice to Management

Take full advantage of the great people that work there and fully use their expertise. Promote within. Look out for all of the people who work at the Firm, not just the folks that are at the "top"

    Pros

Benefits of both a large firm and a small office, friendly staff and attorneys, flexible and somewhat casual work environment.

    Cons

Due to the nature of the firm, some processes can be overly bureaucratic but it's not a significant Con.

    Pros

Relaxed work environment; friendly people; some management actually care.

    Cons

    The pay could be better

    Pros

SF office full of great people, who are great to work with. Attorneys treat you like people. Can't speak too much of other offices, but I love working in SF.

    Cons

Since the merger too many chiefs and not enough indians. Everyone is a manger or director. It's insane. That's why it takes so long to get something done. Also everyone has an input god forbid you need something urgent.

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to be a top tier firm when we don't have the resources to compete with them. Be content with being a mid tier firm and run with that.

    Pros

    good set of large clients
    some reasonably good attorneys
    multiple offices
    variety of practice areas

    Cons

not a business, but more of a club for average litigators
client poaching is encouraged and assisted by management
salaries and bonuses are based more on who likes you than on competence or business generation
SF litigators "managed" old Townsend firm out of existence but maintain influence
some practice areas have enormous pressure to produce, while others do basically nothing but receive large payouts

    Advice to Management

remove all management influence of SF based Townsend firm attorneys
    treat non-litigators as valued contributors
    keep your promises about compensation
stop helping some attorneys at the expense of others

    Pros

I am a senior associate. KTS gives associates a great deal of autonomy. We are allowed and encouraged to speak directly with clients, unlike other firms that shield associates from clients. The firm is very transparent about efforts to obtain new clients, and pitches for new work. This is unlike other firms I've worked at, where associates are kept in the dark about where new work will come from (which can be scary). KTS has large, good clients that are exciting to work for. Case teams are kept small, which increases efficiency. The mandatory pro bono requirement gives an opportunity to really make a difference, and get great court room experience. The firm stresses "real life" training, such as NITA deposition courses, which is nice.

    Cons

Post-merger, the firm is large and it can be challenging to communicate effectively through offices. (A problem likely shared by all large law firms.) In a case team, roles are often assigned early and are kept separated, such that it can be difficult to obtain a range of experience and skill sets. There is a lot of work, which can lead to a high number of hours.

    Advice to Management

Hire more junior associates. Do not make the team roles so segmented, such that associates get experience doing a range of things.

    Pros

Management doesnt expect a lot out of you, free tea and water.

    Cons

Terrible management, low salary. They are hiring attorneys like crazy but are not hiring support so folks are expected to take on more work. The bonus was insulting as was the yearly raise. Very cheap company with high turnover rates. Would not recommend to anyone. Lots of politics and meeting that are not useful.

    Advice to Management

they really need to focus on training and removing some of the terrible middle managers, promote people within.

    Pros

None. Can't think of one pro to this firm. If you want highschool drama, this is the place. If you don't care about clients, this is the place. If you want to be harassed, this is the place.

    Cons

Everything about KTS is a negative. I really don't know how they are still in business. Poor client morale, poor treatment to other employees, harassment, micro management, lack of training and education regarding new laws.
