    Pros

Great working environment. Very substantial training with lunch provided. Your encouraged to ask questions. Everyone is very helpful and wants to see you advance and succeed.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons with my situation. A higher starting pay is always great but what your offered is comperable to other employers.

    Pros

Flexibility to take on new projects. Great culture of teamwork.

    Cons

Minimal investment in education- tuition reimbursement packages only meet the federal tax free minimum unless your department is willing to sponsor you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you offered more in tuition reimbursement packages, people would gladly sign on for extra years.

    Pros

Steady paycheck. Huge company has potential for a good working environment (depends on immediate management). Flexible work schedules.

    Cons

Cheap, cheap, cheap. Some management types are more ridiculous than others, but it's all about the bottom line. Return on investment is unheard of at this place. It's more about how much you can save today, who cares about tomorrow? type attitude. It's like they're running a company with 12 people instead of 12,000 with some of the archaic systems that are in place.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your employees with pay increases, better annual bonuses and even spot bonuses. They're the most important asset to the company. I can't see this "let them leave, we'll find someone better" holding up in the long run.

Must be friends with the Big Bosses!!!!

I worked at Kinder Morgan full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Best thing I can say about KM is the benefits package was the one of the best that I have seen around.

    Cons

There are way to many to really get into, but just to bring some into the forefront, HR will discuss other people during exit interviews and other meetings that have no relevance to your meeting. Unless your are "best friends" with the boss, you will never go anywhere and feel that you must constantly CYA for fear of reprisal on the stupidest things. The anonymous hotline they encourage you to use if you see any ethical issues is a complete joke! I figured out fairly quickly, that unless you play by the rules laid out in front of you, however unethical they may be, you are labeled a trouble maker and will get no where fast....

It's sad when a supplier can tell you stories about upper management in a department because they had previously worked with them and the same issues applied here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn to look outside the box when you receive multiple complaints on your Ethics Hotline from multiple sources. Review your upper management selections carefully.

    Pros

Professional relationships and work environment, interesting travel and work destinations, decent benefits package including 401K, health, dental, etc.

    Cons

Limited advancement opportunities, extreme cost consciousness, controlling management structure with little opportunity for innovation, average pay at best, very clique-ish

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Decent work-life balance, but little opportunity to advance or move between business units

    Pros

Rich Kinder is obviously a solid business man. He is strategic with assets and the company continues to grow. Job security seems high as the workload is intense.

    Cons

Recent management has been allowed to fill the company with friends and family. Under the old management, things seem to run with relative integrity. Now, positions are filled with unqualified candidates and directors are pressured to hire the "recommended" applicants. Unfortunately some have taken it too far and even gone so far as to hire a former basketball coach as a Safety Consultant. These decisions have an effect on the morale of the people on the team who do value safety and all that KM claims to hold valuable. It was disheartening to watch the steady and then rather rapid decline in the integrity of upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Think about the integrity of the company when making hiring decisions. Allow people to earn their time and experience by putting them in roles they are qualified for. Actions speak louder than words...always...
