    Pros

    Industry-competitive pay
Very little routine tasks or monotony
Employees are recognized for their work; credit is given when and where it's due
Not just a desk job, regional responsibilities allow you to get out of the office regularly

    Cons

Some travel required (mostly day travel)
Personnel training is mostly handled by EHS; training department doesn't actually train
EHS is a lean department, sometimes work load is heavy

    Advice to Management

Better communication between EHS and Ops directors
Training should be handled by training department

    Pros

Good paying for an intern position
I have a good experience there

    Cons

Need more improvement on tasks schedule for intern. There were weeks I sat doing nothing since the team I was assigned had no task for me.

    Pros

Decent Salary. Full stop. Oil and Gas aren't going anywhere.

    Cons

Long hours, constant belittling of employees - especially those on Public Relations team. 12 hour days were common, pointless daily task lists were expected, as were calls from the PR lead late at night to receive verbal lashings concerning the inane minutia of the day.

The entirety of the highly intelligent, highly dedicated PR team had quit within one year due to the working conditions.

    Advice to Management

    Find a moral PR lead.

    Pros

As a whole, the job security at KM is outstanding as lay offs are non-existent, the benefits are on par with industry standard, and flexibility within employee's individual schedules is a plus. The respect and attitudes, employee v. employee, operations v. management are for the most part agreeable which helps with the overall atmosphere of day to day working conditions. Implementing safety features such as dual verification has helped mitigate controller miscues and provide an important aid for all controllers. There is plenty of room for growth within KM. Every sector of mgmt within the terminal has an open door policy and are always willing to listen to any and all thoughts, suggestions, or concerns.

    Cons

Employee turnover in regards to pipeline controllers has slowed drastically, but is and can be an issue. The HMI/SCADA for controllers is archaic and training can seem at times as sink or swim. The overall workload is unprecedented when compared to other Oil and Gas terminals and the pay does not come close to reflecting such output. Yearly bonuses are below average for controllers and the outline for how bonuses are calculated are poorly conveyed to controllers, especially when compared to the amount of product moved per employee, per console. Biased towards ex-military and KM has a "mgmt in waiting" program for ex-military. Although expectations should always be high, mgmt. yields an uncompromising attitude towards controller miscues when you compare the amount of workload and simply product being moved throughout the terminal.

    Pros

    Average pay and benefits.
Normally a 40 hour work week.

    Cons

There are three ways to achieve a high paying position.
    • Friend or family of upper management (i.e. director level or above).
    • Native of Bolivia (subcategory of family and friends).
    • Former Shell employee.

This is not an exaggeration, the amount of nepotism and cronyism is unbelievable! If HR actually implemented a policy preventing relatives from working and even supervising each other 2/3 of the staff would be eliminated. This would stop all productivity as a few people do all the work for the friends and family network as qualifications are not a requirement for employment.

This is the cheapest upstream oil and gas company in the country. Saving money is normally a good thing; however they will spend a dollar to save a dime. Standard policy is to pay an extra $1,800 on a company truck to have the power windows and door locks removed.

    Advice to Management

HR needs to put a stop to hiring personnel solely based on their relation to upper management; it is driving the few remaining qualified employees away. They’re racing the legacy El Paso employees out the front door.

Start a real safety program to replace the vague policies that don’t make sense and are inconsistent between locations. Everyone must be clean shaven but no employees have ever been given a respirator fit test. A good start would be putting a qualified person in charge (i.e. someone with a background and education in EHS).

Employees are your biggest asset. Invest in some training.

Look at turnover rates by department, manager and supervisor. There are instances that exceed 300%. This is well known with employees and it would be nice to see action taken.

Do something with the information from all of the employee surveys; currently it just goes into a black hole. Everyone has the same issues but nothing ever changes.
