I have been working at Kindred Healthcare part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

-Kindred appreciates all of their staff. -Administrative staff are aware of situations that occur with the direct patient care (rare in healthcare facilities) - Possibilities for bonuses based on performance -Good work is recognized. I received a card from a supervisor one day that simply thanked me for picking up extra shifts.

    Cons

-They expect your best -All work is expected to be finished before leaving the building. This can mean leaving an hour or two after your scheduled to leave. - frequent policy changes - frequent inservices -Aides and nursing staff will be called off of work if there are not enough patients

    Pros

I like the people I work with, love my job, enjoy learning experiences. It's amazing to see some of the progress that some patients are able to make in a short time.

    Cons

Political infighting at times, low pay compared to some other facilities in the area, difficulty at times with electronic equipment and the ancient computer system!!!

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Kindred Healthcare full-time

    Pros

you get plenty of over time if you want it. max patient load is 6, but most of the time you will have only 4

    Cons

poor management. upper management can care less about you and don't even know who you are most of the time, mid management pretends to care, they listen but don't hear you.

    Advice to Management

screen your applicants more carefully, don't just hire a warm body. when your employee comes to you with a concern pay attention

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Kindred is an organization focused on employee retention; I applaud their efforts to recognize performance, as this seems to be diminishing in the corporate environment.

    Cons

No material cons observed up to this point.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The director of nursing at the Randol Mill location in Arlington is the BEST. She really cares about her staff and the patients. She encourages conversations between herselff and her staff if there are any problems. She's very straight forward and kind. She also acknowledges that as a new grad nurse, you're afraid but she gives you so much opportunity for questions. EVERYONE seems like they enjoy their job their and it's a big family enviornment. VERY CLEAN.

    Cons

There aren't any that I have identified. Maybe one would be it's location. It's nestled behind an LTC so it's a bit difficult to find that entrance!

    Advice to Management

NONE! Keep up the good work.

I have been working at Kindred Healthcare full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Corporate salaries are competitive in the Louisville's saturated healthcare IT market. Great corporate culture. Positive company mission. Good benefits (fairly typical healthcare coverage these days, but additional benefits include things like free fitness center for employees, high quality cafeteria and coffee shop, holiday activities for families, on-site flu shots, etc).

    Cons

Multiple departments often work toward similar objectives, unaware of each other's work. Career paths can be unclear and difficult to find your next promotion opportunity.

    Advice to Management

Consolidate verticals. Consider having departmental cross-training for all employees (it takes a long time to figure out what each department and division does, which leads to a lot of the missed opportunities to merge projects).
