    I worked at Kirkland's part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people make it worth it. I loved coming to work because I built great friendships with my co-workers. It was fun to help customers decorate. Laid back environment. My particular store worked flexibly with my schedule. Easy part time job if you have other responsibilities. Not usually stressful.

    Cons

Quality of products should be better. We always had broken or defective merchandise and it was embarrassing. Pay is not great, and they are not keen on offering raises, even if you have a flawless record and loyalty. The only people who get full time are store manager and senior assistant. Employees get not much better of a discount than a customer does with a coupon.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like they're more important, and maybe they'll stay. Offer employees better incentives.

I have been working at Kirkland's part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

large turn-over so the team cohesion has even left the building so to speak. The team members were a positive at one time. The products all made in China and quality is becoming more and more awful. The discount was a pro, but now with customer discounts being the same ...

    Cons

Awful pay, awful hours, unsafe environment. It doesn't seem to be store managements issue - they are only doing what the company tells them to do. Between the high turnover of employees (hours change constantly so hard to supplement with another job...or two. The quality of the merchandise - Kirklands is becoming the dollar store of home decorating, and that is sad. I really did once love this company.

    Advice to Management

    None.

I have been working at Kirkland's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great group of folks to work with. Employee discounts

    Cons

Hourly wage could be higher as competitor are starting wages around 8.00 to 8.50

    Advice to Management

Only advice I could give would be to have a way to talk more directly to associates instead of just through management. Maybe an online schedule and employee esuite.

    Pros

Not a lot, I only worked hard for my fellow associates, the company has gone to the dogs and couldn't care less about the hard work that these people do. It was a great company before it went corporate.

    Cons

They work you to death and don't pay near enough for what is expected and they sit at desks and have regular hours and expect you to work all kinds of retarded schedules. The trucks come in at 4 am and have items up to 175 lbs. for women to lift, no man in his right mind would work for the money that they pay and the killer work load, don't let them fool you when they say that it is a fun job, it is awful !!!!!!!

    Advice to Management

If the people are good, go to bat for them, if not, weed them out and hire good employees.

    I worked at Kirkland's full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Lots of room for growth within the company. There are many training classes and workshops offered to assist in the development of managers, who in return develop the employees. Assistant managers are groomed for store manager positions from the beginning. Building employee confidence through the use of training programs is the upside of working for Kirklands. Promoting within the company is a common practice. The company stays up to date with technological advances.

    Cons

Floor sets are time consuming and can require late night shifts.

    Advice to Management

Try to keep floor set scheduled for Sundays or early mornings.

Lower side of the pay scale, have to pick up slack for others when policies are not enforced. Open on thanksgiving night

    Advice to Management

Coach and follow up. Plan and organize.

    I worked at Kirkland's part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I really liked the staff at my location. I also liked that they were flexible about days you wanted off, you just have to let management know a good two weeks in advance.. Although where I worked a week was fine.

    Cons

No hours. Try to limit everybody to 20 hours each each

    Advice to Management

    More hours!
