    Pros

I was given a ton of job experiences...a lot of variety...and even if I got stuck on a boring task for a month or so, it usually changed relatively quickly, so I was able to always learn something new. The ViCon (virtual construction) team is generally very open to new ideas and trying new things. Also, upper management is extremely accessible to everyone and usually listens to what you have to say.

    Cons

Outside of the ViCon group, the company is a bit more "old-school" and takes longer to adopt new ideas. Also, they company is a regional powerhouse (AZ, NM, TX) but has trouble on a national scale competing against the likes of McCarthy, DPR, etc.. who are enormous and have greater financial resources. Going after big jobs, it sometimes feels like David and Goliath

    Advice to Management

Invest in technology to help your employees work smarter, not harder. A lot of man hours were wasted on my jobsite wrestling with cumbersome, archaic software that needed to be redone or thrown out altogether.

    Pros

Big company, but small enough to know almost everyone. Loved the staff and opportunities. Made many connections by networking and helping as much as I was capable of.

    Cons

High turnover in management. Many managers transferred to and from the area frequently. Had to help train management to get them on board, but wasn't too bad.

    Advice to Management

Kitchell treats their employees well and offer great opportunities for interns. Randy Rominger is a great executive.

    Pros

    Family-type work environment.
    Very progressive in the industry.

    Cons

If you're not one of the long time in-crowd, consider yourself on the bubble. A lot of arrogance.

    Pros

They offer great benefits, Continuous Training for employees. There is a lot of employee interaction to get people involved. Decent work to life balance. Good vacation time.

    Cons

Management has no idea of what Lean construction is all about. Pay is on the very low end of the scale. Heavy upper management that is totally out of touch with the working folks.

    Advice to Management

Lean up the construction. Trim the fat too many Project Directors, Project Executives, Sr this Senior that. Recognize new and GOOD talent when you see it and learn to PAY what is industry standard for the position.

    Pros

This is a great place to make a mark - literally - on projects that leave a lasting legacy. Lots of opportunity to grow within the job and aspire to leadership. Retirement benefits through employee ownership are a great bonus.

    Cons

Very few - for someone who's had a lot of work experience it's the bomb! The only problem I have is that a key is required to use the women's bathroom at the main office.

    Advice to Management

Be honest, transparent and make those who work for you accountable.

    Pros

Working from home, or time off isn't a big problem when you really need to do it. Pay is average

    Cons

Not very good leadership in the organization
Decision making is usually by the seat of the pants
Too many people waiting to retire to cash in private stock options at a terribly inflated price
New employees cannot get into the stock program without spending a lot of money

    Advice to Management

Doing business the way you always have done it before doesn't mean you'll be in business tomorrow. Executives need to make executive decisions sometimes, consensus leadership takes too long and doesn't win the organization work. One group has too much say and then when they can't produce they blame others. Accountability doesn't exist. The network admin can crash systems all day long, but has been there for 15 years.
