I worked at Kiva Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Company doesn't have cash flow problem, better job security as long as Amazon doesn't have cash problem.

    Cons

Rigid, old-style, management, more like low-tech workshop, not suitable for exceptional engineers. Comparing to west coast hi-tech companies, this company is far behind in terms of work culture, value.

    Pros

Young, fast moving, open and collaborative work culture that promotes creativity and innovation at the individual level. Speaking up and voicing your opinion is expected and will be challenged. Bias for action culture that promotes experimenting to find the best solutions to problems. Great place if you are a fresh-out with interest in leading edge robotics solutions.

    Cons

Departments tend to work in silos because of fast moving environment creating communication challenges. Plan on spending lots of time in meetings and keeping updated with other department progress.

    Advice to Management

    Create separate management roles.

I have been working at Kiva Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The outlook they present to the outside world. Cool technology and some really smart people. Free beer on Friday if you are lucky to finish work by 4:30.

    Cons

The real world that is present inside the company. Unethical company that cannot keep its promises made to employees. Forget promises, it's hard to even keep/retain its employees. Work life balance is a joke. I've heard even folks at amazon Seattle stopped complaining for the kind of work environment here. Unhealthy competition and mudslinging peers only breeds politics, blame game and hatred. It is by no means team building. They bs a lot about amazon leadership principles and expect the employees only to follow them while they can break them.

    Advice to Management

Stop judging based on numbers and start to analyze from a holistic view. Have backbone and learn to disagree and commit when you get pounded by insane release deadlines.

    Pros

You get to work with some of the talented people in the industry. Innovative product, amazon technologies.

    Cons

This place is a mess. They are transitioning from a small startup to big company. They don't know how to manage the talent. They are losing people. Hire good managers.

    Advice to Management

Management is an art. Hire good managers.

    Pros

Great people, diverse technology and amazing product! Robots and complex software, what more could an engineer ask for?

    Cons

Some of the newer management is more operationally focused which can literally be a drag on progress.

    Advice to Management

Integration with Amazon should be interesting.

I worked at Kiva Systems full-time

    Pros

Interesting product, fulfillment centers with Kiva product works amazingly well.

    Cons

Middle management suffers from making decisions. Just do an internet search on "Amazon PIP policies" and you'll get a good idea of what goes on there.

    Advice to Management

    Get a clue

I have been working at Kiva Systems (More than a year)

    Pros

If you like micromanagement and constant fear this is your place.

    Cons

micromanagement, constant fear from completely egotistic leadership that places value on favoritisim and not merit. Some of the best people here get the worst treatment because they aren't part of the buddy system.

    Advice to Management

    End yourself

I worked at Kiva Systems full-time

    Pros

    Amazon pays well. Kiva sucks!

    Cons

Knuckle dragging thugs run the Operations and Manufacturing teams (teams???). Upper management is complacent and part of the problems. Stock obsessed managers will do anything to keep there status. Lie, bully, and pressure their employees. So many good, hard working people have left. You put in long hours and accomplish the nearly immpossible and still have your job threatened. It's not worth the pain and stress. Look elsewhere. Check out the real reviews below. The "Good" ones are written at gun point from fearful employees that management encourages to post.

    Advice to Management

Amazon, fire them all! They lie to your face.

    Pros

stocks are up. robots are cool.

    Cons

slow vesting. need to get out of this uninspiring, no good management, 1984 like sweatshop. are we in the 80's? what is this beeper non-sense.

    Advice to Management

i don't blame you, i am sure you're being directed by your managers to be such a soul sucking slave driver.

I worked at Kiva Systems full-time

    Pros

Lots of interesting projects to work on and opportunities to see the positive impact of one's efforts

    Cons

There is a very aggressive pace and the culture from Seattle pushes hard for big wins. Buckle up your helmet!

    Advice to Management

Seems like the organization has hit stride with the integration into Amazon. Making sure that the folks in the Boston area feel like they are part of the broader organization and have leadership roles / career paths open will keep the energy high over time.
