    Pros

The salary was good. The co-workers were friendly. The benefits package was generous. There was tuition reimbursement offered. Some managers were excellent at managing staff while not alienating personnel.

    Cons

Promotions promised, but not delivered. Management contributes to drama within the workplace. The amount of gossip and back-biting participated in by all levels of management created an uneasy and unproductive working environment. Double standard within the company. No consistency in management of staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Only promise what can realistically delivered and establish a concrete set of standards and practices to be followed by all employees. Take action on concerns from employees and maintain relational distance between supervisory staff and employees.

    Pros

The Company is very progressive in its approach and in its strategy. It is a "top 3" player in the steel serviuce center industry and participates in the market from a position of strength. Senior management is open minded and approachable at all times.

    Cons

Matrix organization sometimes appears fragmented but the participants all have the best interest of the Company and the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to the ideas and to trust your employees.

    Pros

My experience has been built around the support of seniour managment who believe and promote the carreer opportunities for those who are dedicated to the goals and success of the company. I am very proud to be a part of the Kloeckner team.

    Cons

Company culture may be challenging with the acquision of several companies under the Kloeckner brand. The culture comes from the top down as the facility that I work for has consolidated into another locaiton but upper management as made the transition appear to be seamless as two divisions work under one roof. The message from upper management is to work together as one team selling each others products offering more opportunities/solutions for our customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to support and believe in your people as they have the same goal that you do....to make money!

    Pros

Professional, results oriented organization. The people care, and are helpful when you ask. Career advancement is excellent and the pay is competitive with the market. Corporate Management has a clear pathway to success, and is steadfast with attaining those goals.
This is an International, Publically Traded company. This is NOT a Mom and Pop, privately held instituation.

    Cons

It is easy to get lost in the numbers, too many you are just employee #1234. Just as being an International, Publically Traded Company is a benefit, it is also a detriment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

None. They are fair, balanced, and understanding.

    Pros

Company has grown by 5 times in the last six years. Well financed, strong business model. Great place to work if you only want your growth to be limited by your own capability. Stong benefits, health care vacation and 401k. Great modern new offices. Stable and well capitalized

    Cons

Given the growth rate there had to be a lot of change, which is not for everybody. If you want responsibility this is the place to be. You'll get as much as you can handle. Large publicly traded company with all that it entails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep working to make the company feel small even though it's grown to be the third largest in the country and number one in the world. Communicate, communicate, commnicate.

    Pros

Using my knowledge in accounting and transportation.

    Cons

Going thru multiple managers and having turn arounds

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Not to compare this branch to last branch. If things are running smooth don't try to fix. Bring new ideas but don't treat your employees are stupid and inaccurate. Make sure management knows correct prosecutes instead of telling employees to do their job incorrectly and having more errors to fix.

    Former Employee - Territory Manager

    Pros

Good perks and a great backing of credibility in the industry.
    Company had clout.

    Cons

Expectations were unattainable, no logic to targets.
What have you done for me lately mentality.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have a clear understanding of the full scope of the responsibilities of a Territory Manager and realize they are putting in 70+ hours in a work week and not always playing. Have more trust in the persons in the position that they are getting the job done. Lower your paranoia & thinking that they are sleeping to 10, seeing 1 client, having 2 hour lunches with clients, hitting the tee box at 2 in the afternoon and having 4 hour dinners with clients 5 days a week. Regardless of what they are doing in any given day, this position is all about building and cementing relationships with clients. If you expect them to see 12 clients in a day, there is no way they are building relationships at this rate. They'd be basically dropping off a scratch pad & pen, asking how business is and heading out the door shortly after to get to the next client. Someone has to be this person and if you hire a person to be in this position, don't be bitter about the perks that goes along with the position.

Management is emotionless and indifferent when dealing with employees and their concerns.
Management and employees work long hours on business days and weekends.

    Pros

Hmmm.... trouble finding a true Pro here except the industry in which one plies their trade. Steel and Metals is a great industry.

    Cons

They blew it with the merge... could have been a monster and became another "cut jobs to save the company". Closing dozens of branches, the mergers (some expected) .. but the whole time they simply flounder. Too much responsibility placed on middle manager (GM types) without much oversight and accountability. Look at their west coast operations. Flat stock yards closing, Structural sold and dissolved, pipe wasting away. SE and East nearly as bad.

Lower than industry pay. Unrealistic "bonus" plans.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a hold of the company... talk to the minions. Instead of Gispert Ruhl having high level monthly talks with the fellow top line staff, talk to those people who actually work and make money for the company.
