Pros
They promote many advancement opportunities.
Cons
Retail hours are very difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
encourage employees
Pros
The best thing about working in kmart is the customers.
Cons
The downside about working at kmart is the lack of hiring enough employee.
Pros
if you're looking for a lot of ho urs as a teenager you'll get it.
Cons
terrible pay for what you have to work with, management doesn't respect any of your requests for time off. i asked to get saturdays off because i had a sport to coach and they wouldn't give it to me. management is constantly hounding you to get more shop your way rewards cards and they don't respect their employees in the least. you will never see more rude customers in your life its a constant arguement with them always having to go get a supervisor to solve the issue. would never recommend kmart to anyone they should all close in my opinion horrible first job experience.
Advice to Senior Management
get off your employees backs all the time and try to focus more on thier needs!!!
Pros
The coworkers are very fun to work with.
Cons
I was given a promotion but was never given a raise, while people hired externally were given more compensation for doing the same position. The managers don't understand when you want to take time off for the holidays, and they can be inflexible with hours. I feel as though I am not respected as an employee and not given enough positive reinforcement. The customers can be very difficult to deal with.
Advice to Senior Management
Offer more support and positive feedback to the employees.
Pros
Decent benefits, but limited right now due to the economy, willing to work with you if you really need time off for personal situations, depending on manager it could be a great experience
Cons
Too much variance in direction, poor training, company flip flops on important standards, and focus changes too much. Sears has too much influence and does not know how to run a low priced mass merchandiser. They want to run it like their own department stores, even though they are having trouble again.
Advice to Senior Management
Be consistent, respectful, and give flexibility
Pros
Great People, Great Management. Very nice.
Cons
The pay is fair, but i would like more.
Advice to Senior Management
The leadership at my kmart is fantastic.
Pros
Fun work environment
Get first dibs on the sales
Flexible work schedule
Cons
Pay is below average
Some people get lots of work days and some people don't
Advice to Senior Management
Hire people who want to work and turnover wouldn't be so high
Invest in some new registers to insure a smoother customer checkout experience
Pros
The management is really good. Although sometimes corporate makes difficult decisions, the store managers attempt to make work as bearable as possible.
Cons
I really don't have a lot to complain about. One downside that I have seen is the frustration with how we in the store are told how to do things by corporate. Sometimes it doesn't feel like they really understand how it really works.
Pros
I would have to say that the only pro to working at Kmart is the employee discount you get at Sears.
Cons
You are treated like crap. Always having issues with my paycheck. Not to mention you HAVE to have a bank account or use their paycheck card in order to be paid. As someone who doesn't have a bank account, I was forced to choose the later, which is full of fees and issues. I show up on time, rarely if ever call out, work my whole shift hard, running around to complete the projects they demand be done and then treat me like a cockroach. Do not do overnights at Kmart. You are locked in the entire night, no fresh air, cant leave if you become ill suddenly, and if the power goes out, well grab a flashlight and get back to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize those who work hard. Don't talk about firing an entire crew within earshot of said crew. Proper incentives work better than threats of termination. Stop allowing the dead weight to pull your great stores into the toilet!
Pros
Working at K-Mart is amazing. There are really flexible with your hours, I have a second job so they work with me to work my hours in. There are really nice pay for a teenager, and you get to meet so many different people.
Cons
Some of the employees are mean, but it depends where you work. No where is perfect, but you do get those rude customers every once in awhile. Working a cash register is the worst part, so many buttons, and customers get angry at you when it's wrong. But it isn't K-Mart's fault.
Advice to Senior Management
Explain more while training new employees, I only got 1 training day, Then an hour with supervision then I was on my own alone as the only cash register. I would like to me more supervised my first time.
