Pros
If you like the retail environment of variance in hours then this is for you.
OK employee discount on regular priced items
Cons
Employee discount can't be used on sale items
Close one night and open the next makes you feel like you never left
Pay is bottom of the barrel no matter your experience, different positions are in the same pay scale
even though there are more responsibilities.
Not lenient with hours if you work in certain departments
Advice to Senior Management
Keep in mind that the same job can be done whether someone comes in at 6:00 or 7:00am.
Try to keep an open mind regarding employee's situations
Re-evaluate your prices because it doesn't make sense that things can be bought somewhere else for cheaper than the employee discount. You can't expect employees to pay more just because they work there.
Pros
good benefits and okay working conditions
Cons
poor mgmt. and they are not trained well
Advice to Senior Management
listen to your employees
Pros
5 day work week except xmas time
Cons
Kmart is in constant panic mode and they make thier employees pay for thier years of mis management. they constantly terminate good associates for minor mistakes. DM's need training and Kmart needs to hire DM's that care about the store and its associates not just themselves.
Advice to Senior Management
hire all new dm's and train them
Pros
Coworkers are friendly and has a family feel.
Very Flexible
Easy to get a leadership role but not necessarily a promotion or the official title because of the payraise involved.
Store level management is generally nice and understanding.
Cons
Some customers can be very rude and costantly reutrn to harass you because management is afraid to attempt to fix the issue.
Difficult to get promoted because of certain restrictions placed with the job.
Corporate level management is clueless and do not provide the necessary resources to allow us to truly be successful.
Advice to Senior Management
Go all the way down to the part time associates and full time associates and truly listen to their suggestions because we see the everyday problems that need to be fixed.
Pros
Managers willing to work with your school schedule and allow for time off requests. Easy to apply.
Cons
Force you to pressure customers in to any promotions they have going on, march of dimes, rewards cards and credit cards. They schedule you depending on your numbers, and if they are low you will constantly be reminded and given horrible scheduling. Customers will constantly complain to you and demand to be left alone about the promotions.
Advice to Senior Management
We are not being hired to pressure your customers, let us do our job and let the customers be! Listen to your customers, if they don't want a rewards card we cant keep asking them and expect them to want to come back!
Pros
Nice down time during rushes.
Cons
Low pay. Overworked. Disrespected. Hours cut(now working one day a week).
Advice to Senior Management
My advice to the management is to completly fix this company. I hate having to annoy people just to keep my job.
Pros
They work well with my school schedule. They were hiring when I needed a job. Most of my coworkers are wonderful people that I love to be around and consider family.
Cons
Very poor management at my store. As a part-time lead I am expected to do as much work as a full-time lead. Low pay for the work. Store building is falling apart around us. I have no one under me I can assign tasks to during the day; its just me and two other leads. Too much to do with very little time to do it; also count in price checks, layaway, jewelry, customer questions, online layaways, online mygofers, covering electronics and service desk breaks. Managers very rarely give praise. They tell us they are on a pay freeze but the new hires tell us they are making more than most of us do. Only reason I am still there is because I love my Kmart family and I need a job while attending college.
Pros
Some of the best reasons is you have a lot of options and respect by employees and is easy to interact.
Cons
The management and wages could ne better more raises would be nice and more appealing. Times are low and need more full time.
Advice to Senior Management
Give more raises, doesn't have to be extreme but show more interest in your employees. It will show more cosidrration in your workers.
Pros
Get place to start, everyone is extremely friendly, intensely trained
Cons
A lot of slackers, some odd characters work there, customers are usually kind of odd too
Advice to Senior Management
Watch your cashiers a little better...
Pros
At Kmart, you get a little more freedom to merchandise your way to success. Not everything is dictated by some book that corporate sends out once a season (although there are required features et al). Opportunities are available for career growth.
Cons
Getting a work-life balance can sometimes be a bit difficult. Hours can be long and a 12 hour day isn't uncommon.
Advice to Senior Management
Develop hourly leaders--promote them to a lead position, cross-train them, just treat them like the valued associates that they are.
