I worked at Kmart full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people there were awesome to work with. Real team work with the members of management. They were a little top heavy with upper management at the DC.

    Cons

Union environment made it difficult to jump in and help team when work was super busy. It's hard to show what the expectation is when you can't jump in the trenches with the team

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Get the union out.

I have been working at Kmart full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Kmart will work schedules, but sadly I feel it is out of desperation.

    Cons

Kmart has far too many 'chiefs' and not nearly enough 'Indians'. Training is not priority, but reading minds is expected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice is to train employees, treat employees with respect and appreciate the ones that do their job. Very little pay can be tolerated and even overlooked, when there is a spoken appreciation.

I worked at Kmart part-time for more than a year

    Pros

No pros, everything about kmart sucks

    Cons

Pay sucks, managers suck, managers are rude, associates are rude, working conditions are terrible. There is no ac, the place had serious health code violations, too many callouts. No one works as a team, waste of 2 years of my life. Worked for two years had no paid vacation and no pay increase. Sucks sucks sucks , don't apply. Everyone quits as soon as they start which is why they are constantly hiring. DO NOT CARE ABOUT EMPLOYEES! They treat us like caged animals.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire people who are actually qualified for this position.

I have been working at Kmart part-time for more than a year

    Pros

they will hire just about anyone. They are lenient with schedules so it is good for college or high school students

    Cons

Everything. Management is poor. they don't trust their employees so they make stupid rules like you have to check out at the service desk even if you only get a 15 minute break and there are 5 people ahead of you and nobody at the regular registers. They will promote people who have been there less than 2 months over people who have been there over a year. They won't let you move departments and will give you lame excuses as to why you can't. You get minimum wage and never get a raise. The registers are from the 90's so they break down a lot. You only get 5 hour shifts if you are cashier. they are ALWAYS understaffed so sometimes you will be the only cashier or the only one on the floor for hours. Don't ask for a day off, call in, or arrive late because you will get punished by having your already short hours cut. Your supervisors will let customers yell at you and stand by doing nothing about it. They play favorites and allow some people to just stand at the service desk while others are trying to cut down their growing line. They don't always give you your break. They will cut your break short if they deem "fit." Sometimes you will be waiting for a floor associate to call you back for 5 minutes while you stand there with an angry customer because the floor associates didn't do their job the night before and remove the sales signs. I could go on but I will not.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire those that don't know how to do their job instead of playing favorites and keeping them there, they only slow others down. Reward those that work hard or they will leave the company for somewhere else. Raise your wages, get rid of the stupid rules, and increase hours because to make money you have to spend money and to decrease your large turn over rate you have to treat your employees like you care about them and like they are actually humans because they are. Organize the store better and do better training.

I have been working at Kmart part-time for more than a year

    Pros

It's a pretty easy job, same as most retail, most employees start off as cashier and move up to a specific department. Decent amount of hours. Lower-level supervisors are friendly and helpful.

    Cons

Management as my specific location is terrible. Complaints are never listened to by the head manager. They focus way too much credit card and rewards applications.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually talk to and lead your employees, not just boss them around and expect results.

I worked at Kmart part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Meet new people
Flexible with schedule unless you call out sick then you get yelled at

    Cons

    Management belittles you
    Under paid
    Overworked
Management likes to gossip like teenagers
You don't have to follow the rules if your friends with the floor supervisor
    No raises
    No appreciation
Given poor evaluations so you don't have to get a raise
    Different managers have different rules
My store was always extremely hot or very cold
When the district manager is visiting your made to follow a new set of rules to impress him

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire better managers. When an employee reports a manager, actually do something because we have real issues. I honestly wish corporate could be a fly on the wall to see how they really talk and treat us. You'd be disgusted!
