I have been working at Kmart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Always hiring. Negotiable with people's availability. Better to work in a department than at a register. If you get along with the managers you can get away with many things.

    Cons

Low pay rate, ask for too much work for little pay. They are inconsiderate of others needs and have a bad attitude. Low hours never full time available. Stressful

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase hours, assign more supervisors and pay them adeiquetly. Supervisor should not be handling customer service at the same time.

I have been working at Kmart part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Advancement is easy as long as you do you job well.
Discount is generous on clothing but not so much on other merchandise.
    Yearly performance based raises
    Generally staffed with friendly people

    Cons

Sears and Kmart under sears holdings has bought into many programs that aren't succeeding like corporate would like and is making each store and henceforth associate responsible for the short comings of rewards programs, replacement plans, online orders, store credit card.
Pay is low but will easily get you up to a supervisory position where you can still gain experience.
Very traditional beuracray structured each problem must go up the food chain and you're at the mercy of corporate 's schedule
Older technology (state of the art for '95) that is often problematic however you find your way of dealing with it .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I would increase responsibility of following policies that keep the store running well. Turnover rate for associates can go up because then you can find the right people who will do things right the first time. Then they can all be rewarded when sales and other performance based metrics.

I have been working at Kmart

    Pros

Kmart is a great place to start for experience. This store is always looking for employees.

    Cons

The pay rate is terrible. There aren't enough employees in some stores so you end up doing more than you are paid to do. There's a lack of communication sometimes.

I worked at Kmart part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Training was crazy easy, and the people that worked there were all nice enough. A simple job.

    Cons

No perks or benefits for the normal worker, we had a fixed pay rate at minimum wage. I worked everywhere from service desk, to stock, to layaway and never received a raise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value your employees! You might find it will make or break your company.

I worked at Kmart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Friendly co-workers, easy tasks at job, every 4 hours you get a 15 minute break, and for an 8 hour shift you get a 45 minute lunch break.

    Cons

They make you choose, when you have 2 jobs, which one to keep. If you want to work here, I suggest you only work here and don't get a second job. They are not lenient with scheduling. A few times, I wasn't sure what to do while working and kinda just did my own thing. (Picking up clothing off of the floors, Organizing, etc.) They don't really tell you what you're supposed to do and expect other employees to tell you what you're supposed to do. But, when you ask, they don't seem to want to help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I suggest you take more time to tell your employees what they should be doing and don't just throw them on to other workers, because they have their own jobs that they are doing and don't seem to want to help new employees.
