  1. Good start if you don't have customers service or sales or retail experience but alot more negatives than positives.

    I worked at Kmart

    Pros

You learn how to be a efficient worker, get basic sales experience. They also give you one hour lunches if your scheduled for 9 hours or more.

    Cons

Expectaions can be flat out ridiculous, management can be often times harsh when its not necessary and very inconsiderate. Also the managers often don't acknowledge you when your doing job competently but they do come down on you hard when you make even little mistakes. Although they did eventually honor my part time schedule the hours can be at times very long and exhausting. All in all for the pay rate you make(which isn't good at all near or below minimum wage)for the greif you have to put up with, lack of acknowledgment raises promotions even when deserving i would not reccomend working for this company unless you have zero experience or otherwise struggling to find a job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Acknowledge that accountability is a two way street give more rewards/perks to thoss who are preforming their jobs competently. Also take better care of customers to many times we had issues with customers at the front because of bin label errors or the fact we didn't price match. Also better train your associates and have more reasonable expectations.

I have been working at Kmart full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Easy lifestyle, no hard work. Lots of people leave early. Lots of turnover can offer opportunities for people to move up quickly.

    Cons

Pressure environment due to bad financials. Difficult to get anyone interested in new projects since there's competition between departments. No money for investments either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hard to say at this point. Talent level should be higher, but it's hard to attract people to work at Sears or Kmart because of the operating environment.

I have been working at Kmart full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic employees to work with. The discount is useful, and applies at Kmart and Sears. Benefits are offered to some part time employees.

    Cons

Way too much to do with few hours. NO ROOM FOR ADVANCEMENT. No incentives to achieve high productivity levels to staff. Too many chiefs, not enough Indians.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Productivity is directly related to morale. You cannot retain solid performing employees if they cannot get enough hours to pay their bills. There are no accountability measures in place to retain good staff.

I have been working at Kmart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Most of my coworkers were great to work with.

    Cons

Too much work for minimum wage. Not much room to move up, rarely give out raises, you get some real weird customers that are high or on drugs. Lack of communication between managers, not enough cashiers, almost ever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Show more appreciation for your employees, give more feedback, improve communication.

I worked at Kmart part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Team members were all great people to work with. Atmosphere in the store made it hard to be upset even if you wanted to be so it was impossible to not be upbeat and positive.

    Cons

We were pretty much short staffed every day in the front end, long lines with only 4 to 5 registers open out of 19. Keep in mind this was a Super Kmart so it was relatively always busy for the most part.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire more people.
