Pros
Flexability in Scheduling. The company puts Priority of Family Time for all employees. benefits of working WEnds for extra $.
Cons
No Reviews of job performance annually, or anytime. Need to base Raises/ bonus on Performance, not on who knows who. , Some bad apples as there is everywhere
Advice to Senior Management
Commmunication to all levels. Do not make Knee jeck reactions that are not thought through. Make a decision based on FACTS not on hearsay.
Pros
Steady weekly pay check, get off at a resonable time to conduct other business matters, and off almost every weekend .
Cons
The work enviroment is extremely cold, some of my fellow employee have extremely unpleasant attitudes and it is to long for your benifits to be available.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop showing favortism ,each employee should should be treated the same as the other, especially regardless family ties and / or personal friendship.
Pros
Some of the best reasons to work at Koch's food are opportunity, growth, and experience.
Cons
Everyone needs a job but you need time to rest and be wit your family.
Advice to Senior Management
Life isn't perfect neither is a business. So when problems occur deal with them dont roll the effects of a stressful job downhill to the next field unless you've done what you can to take some of the momentum off..
Pros
Pay
Time off
atmosphere of the management team
Cons
advancement is slow
pay raisesd not cost of living raise
Advice to Senior Management
set up and advancement chart that will help those want to be promoted to the next level
Pros
does give you the opportunity to work more then 40 hours a week, lets you lear about the industry if you want, the people are very helpful.
Cons
the point system they use to keep track of days off I think is unfair to employees who have a valid reason for not being in work. I can see why they have the point system but dont agree with it, should have less time to work a point off, or understand when the weather is bad and and cant make it to work not issue a point to the person.
Some workers dont work as hard as others.
Advice to Senior Management
I think you should take a look on how the point system is affecting you workers, Supervisors could be more understanding of peoples feelings at times. try and find some solution to the line workers who have back pain because of the uneveniness of the stands they have to stand on.
Pros
Low cost Health Benefits. They will hire just about anyone through local temp agencies in the Chicago area, "Labor solutions" and "Action". Heavily Hispanic environment, primarily Spanish speaking.
Cons
Bad environment, low pay, terrible hours. Employees and management expected to work up to 7 days a week in cold, wet conditions of questionable sanitation. Union environment with minimal interaction or support from the union. The heavy Hispanic management and work force has trouble working with and around other elasticities. English skills are limited with much of labor and many members of management. Poor communication between all areas of the company, inconsistent policies, and questionable hiring practices.
Advice to Senior Management
I offer no advice as they are aware of the issues they are currently experiencing. I am also aware that they continue to successfully practice business in this manner as low bidder in their market.
Pros
Overtime = Money... consistant OT
Cons
75+ hour work weeks as management... no way around it
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more managers... lighten the workload
Pros
It really pays to work at Koch Foods, if you are very limited on options. It's also good if you just want some rudimentary experience in a USDA further processed poultry facility.
Cons
Human Resources at this facility are archaic at best. These people view workers as lowlifes that seek out opportunities to cheat the company out of time and money and their policies reflect that. They still chart time by every quarter hour. You get a half hour lunch that is unpaid and a paid fifteen minute break. If you clock in a minute late from your break, they dock you fifteen minutes off of your hours already worked. If you are unable to take your break, it still gets deducted from your hours worked. Another downside is their policy on applying for other positions within the company. You have to be at Koch a minimum of 6 months before they will let you put in for an opening, regardless of your qualifications. This means they will higher someone that is potentially less qualified than other internal candidates, if one person has been there a certain amount of time and someone else hasn't.
Advice to Senior Management
Embrace new ideas and concepts in the areas of human resources and operations management. Do not become a victim of your own self imposed bureaucracy. Most importantly, see the potential and good in people instead of expecting the worst. Also, fix the time clock to record by the minute, not every fifteen. This will remove the 'need' for the sort of not legal fifteen minute deduction rule. Oddly enough though, this rule is not written in any official capacity. It's conditions like this that attract the unions you try so feverishly to keep out.
