    Hard but cool people

Photographer (Former Employee) San Antonio, TX

ProsGood people and lots of variety in day to day work

ConsHard long work, standing in the sun or cold and bosses played a lot of favoritism.

Advice to Senior ManagementLess favoritism, had the best sales but they picked a different girl to promote because they liked her and knew her previously!

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Kodak Health Imaging bought a small biomedical in Fremont, CA & ruined it.

Senior Technical Writer (Former Employee) Fremont, CA

ProsWorking with cutting edge radiology image enhancing software. Project Mgrs. were good

ConsKodak immediately froze hiring & wages when they bought it. Absentee (Rochester, NY) only cared about core film business, denied employee stock purchases, treated the CA acquisition as a corporate colony to be exploited. Many employees with English As A 2nd Language problems made all levels & types of communication very difficult.

Advice to Senior ManagementBeing undersold by Fuji film cost you a lucrative medical imaging LOB.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I had a wonderful experience in leading the next generation platform architecture activities

Senior Software Architect (Former Employee) Emeryville, CA

ProsThey recognize the role of the architects. They gave good opportunities for architects to drive the initial high level architecture and high level technology assessment.
Occasionally you interact with Kodak labs to do proof-of-concept of new Imaging technologies.
Product Management is pretty good in defining clear specifications through FSDs and UI functional specification and wireframes.

ConsToo much outsourcing of engineering activities to Wipro and ex-Intuit consultants/contractors.
To a large extent it is Test driven development. QA team's deliverables influence the design and deliverables.
1st level Engineering managers are not very competent. During my time they were more or less technical leads -- hence they are do not have any managerial experience.

    Extreme agile

Advice to Senior ManagementBuilding solid engineering teams and expertise.
Embed the role of architecture governance in the engineering deliverables.
Temper Agile practices with traditional RUP.

Managers parachuted from Eastman Kodak are out of touch with their management style and people skills.

Software Engineer (Current Employee) Emeryville, CA

    ProsThe company was once promising.

ConsLittle respect for employees; No decision can be made promptly or be owned.

Advice to Senior ManagementSpin off from Eastman Kodak.

    Keeps sliding downhill...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Emeryville, CA

ProsThe benefits are good, especially for those with families. 9-5 schedule (or less) for most employees. Lots of flexibility in schedule for those with kids with opportunities to sometimes work at home, come in late, leave early, and so on. There are some really nice people here. Easy going office environment for the most part.

ConsLack of leadership and increasing politics. Overall planning is weak and business seems to be largely reactive. Lots and lots of turnover in a short period of time so there's no historical knowledge leading to the same mistakes being made over and over again. Very little importance put on employee well-being or morale so motivation is very low overall. Not a great place if you want to advance in your career or have a career at all: unless you are a select few who have the right connections. and there a lots of "loudest voice in the room" type of situations. Lots of problems go un-addressed because of inefficiencies: bugs on the website can remain indefinitely.

Logistically, the location isn't great if you don't drive - but there is a free city shuttle from the BART station so that helps. You can ride a bicycle but there are some questionable neighborhoods to pass through. Lunch options are pretty limited. Pay is lower than average. Contractors get treated poorly- ie. slow or vague conversion to permanent status/uncertain timelines/sudden endings/etc.

Advice to Senior ManagementLearn to lead your team with focus and logic. Treat your employees with respect - and this does include contractors. A declining business is not an excuse to treat people poorly. Listen to your existing employees and promote from within instead of simply bringing in a steady stream of people from your previous companies with questionable relevant experience and who largely have shown little real results. Create a real "team" that truly works together as one and maybe the ship won't sink completely.

Hard to complain, but if you insist...

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Emeryville, CA

ProsIt's a fairly comfortable place to work. Competitive compensation with good benefits. Not too much office politics. Some departments are strong, like Customer Service and Operations.

ConsThey used to get free soda and food from Costco. When the CEO did away with that, so did motivation and the productivity.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of those vending machines and bring back the Costco deliveries.

Kodak Gallery has a long or possibly short road ahead...

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee) Emeryville, CA

ProsGreat industry with plenty of potential. The majority of the team are fantastic and the culture is warm, friendly, and family oriented. The online photo space is interesting and fun to work in.

ConsKodak Gallery lost its way around 2007 and has struggled to catch up to the competition since. The company continues to lose headwind and is in rapid decline. Unless you are looking for a formidable challenge and a chaotic scramble to gain back market share, this is not the place for advancing one's career.

Advice to Senior ManagementEmpower and motivate the team with competitive compensation, office perks, career advancement objectives, like reviews that are before half the year is over, and morale boosting programs if you want people to put in 100% and be motivated. Try promoting from within when hiring new leadership. Then take a real hard look at the current identity of the company and figure out how to revamp and innovate it to stay in the game.

ConsPay was below par, pay scale was not average.
