I worked at Kohl's as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

The store management internship was a very fun experience. Everyone there was lively and enthusiastic. I learned a great deal about Kohls stores after my internship there. Great pay, great learning experience.

    Cons

The hours were rough but being a store manager would have me working the same hours as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen more to the people working there. Listen more to he 2-6 cashier if they have issues.

    Pros

Get top customer service experience that will give you the entry level experience you need as a young adult into bigger roles at other companies, or within Kohl's.
    Flexible schedule
Inclined to raises on quality performance of individuals based on good store performance
    Recognition of tenured employees

    Cons

Very frustrating nearly 95% of the time
    Labor intensive work
Work is not very engaging - as per usual in retail

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More perks, and team events on or off site. Focus more on culture. Make them love who they work with.

I have been working at Kohl's part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed, managers praise hard work, there is room for moving up into the company and for learning new departments. I was hired on for one department, and can now work all but two, after being there for 7 months. When you prove to your managers that you can handle responsibility, they give it to you, and are happy to watch you succeed. The managers and other associates care about you and your outside life, but are still professional. We work as a team, and celebrate as a team. The job is made fun with contests throughout the store, the district and even other states.

    Cons

Well, when you compare two of the positions that receive the same pay rate, it is a little frustrating. POS associates who stand at the register and ring people up get paid the same amount as those who are working up a sweat unloading the truck and merchandising. Although I am just a regular part time associate, my managers have higher expectations for me than they do for other associates, yet we get paid the same. If I ask someone to cover a shift of mine and they do not work as hard as I do, the managers do not see it as getting the shift covered. I personally enjoy having high expectations held for me, but the associates who work harder, should get noticed and paid better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My managers have come to me with their thoughts of me and have continually praised the work I do every time I am at Kohl's. I am happy with the amount of appreciation I receive from my managers, so keep it up. I would love to move forward with this company!

I have been working at Kohl's part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I enjoy the people I work with and helping customers.

    Cons

Management does not pay attention to employee availability, a lot of times overworking the employees. Also, new policies are not explained, just implemented and when you don't follow the policy you are reprimanded for something you did not even know about. The work is hard and the pay minimal.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to employees needs, raises could be a little bit better for the employees who truly work their hardest.

I worked at Kohl's part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Excellent discounts, plenty of opportunities to learn and work every area/department of the store. You can work basically full-time hours (minus benefits) if you're willing to stay late/come in early/come in on your days off.

    Cons

Scamming customers are rampant, mostly because the company bends over backwards to please its customers to the point where they are basically stealing merchandise. Some managers will basically throw you under the bus to make a customer happy, even if they're attempting to get a $300 vacuum for $50 or use a pack of stolen coupons. I was assaulted by one of our loss prevention associates while on the job and the store's "investigation" was pathetic. The LP supervisor even told me when I reported it that he had done things like this before and was allowed to continue working there. Customers were outrageous (defecating in fitting rooms, trashing whole departments, screaming in our faces, etc.)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus less on kissing customers' feet and strengthen your policies. Promote more people within the store instead of posting listings in the breakroom and then always hiring people from externally.
