Pros
You can combine your employee 15 % off discount with other Kohl's coupons
They promote from within
They work with your schedule
Cons
The pay is not great but it 's retail
They have a day-off black out in November and December. You are not allowed to take any days off at all but its the busiest time of the year for retailers.
Give us more hours! Period! Why should one POS associate get 15 hours and another get 35 hours in the same week if they are not in school, have another job or anything. Makes no sense.
Advice to Senior Management
Management seemed to be good at the store I was at but I only worked there a few months
Pros
The discount (15%) could be better, but have seen worse (Toys R Us (10%) )
There is 30% a few times a year.
I pretty much got my 15 and 30 minute breaks on a regular basis/every shift.
Direct Deposited my check at orientation.
Cons
I applied as a part time employee and practically gave them full availability yet I was only getting about
It took about 5 (plus) weeks for an availability change to finally go into effect.
The customers. They get mad from everything to Kohl's cash to sale items not being the "correct price."
The work attire--dress code is business casual.
People come behind you and mess up what you just cleaned/folded/or hung up. But that's pretty much every where in retail.
Advice to Senior Management
At least bump up the discount to 20% off.
It has been a while since I worked there, so I can't really remember too many things about it.
Price checkers throughout the stores and a perfect place for any and every sign so that there is no need for any "confusion" among customers about what is regular, sale, clearance, etc.
Pros
The people I worked with were some of the best teams ever. They were always willing to help once they saw you were willing to help. Very easy transition from training to the register as I had many experienced and helpful, patient associates to lend a hand.
Cons
Planning anything in advance was a joke. There were many times when schedules weren't received until 3 days before the start of the week. I received my 90 day review in my 9th month of employment. Hours and shifts were unpredictable. No matter how many excellent customer notes and "you did it" notes I received - I was never rewarded with the appropriate lanyard badges. It sounds totally petty - however - when you keep hearing management talk about the program with NO follow through, it becomes meaningless.
You are hounded to get credit card applications and customers' emails each day. After awhile it feels like I'm harassing my customers by asking the same thing again and again. Oftentimes, you'll bw the only cashier in a department and a giant line forms when a small percentage of clientele continually insist a particular item is "on-sale" or is ringing up at $9.00 instead of $29.00. This same group thinks they can switch the stick-on price tags and I won't notice it's the wrong item name associated with the "replacement" sticker.
The regular customers are a real joy and I genuinely adored helping them. I never thought Kohl's would be a high-paying job, however when review dates and requests to be cross trained in other departments go unanswered, there's only so much a person can take.
Advice to Senior Management
Please post ANY and ALL procedural and/or policy updates in a central location, such as the breakroom, where the info should be clearly posted. Remember to adhere to the designated review schedule as outlined by Kohl's core values and corporation guidelines. When an employee shows initiative and enthusiasm for being cross-trained (and there's a vacancy in said department), please don't impede their career path or opportunity for professional growth. Customers and management expect great things from associates. In turn, loyal, hard-working associates expect great support from their management team.
Pros
okay for retail, except for the temperture is too hot etc.
Cons
Environment control store tempertures makes it too hot for hard workers and some shoppers like it cooler when they shop etc.
Pros
they have a great benefits package , the employees are friendly, and the stores themselves are nice
Cons
some times the shift changes are simultaneous, so if there is a project going on, a whole new shift comes in and they have no idea what to do, even the bosses switch out, so they are totally lost.
Advice to Senior Management
just to not have shifts change out that way, Also, update your website to better explain the benefits of being a Kohls employee and its benefits.
Pros
Friendly atmosphere, employees are more than welcome to lend a hand.
Cons
Very part time, with the exception of the holiday in which you are required to work.
Advice to Senior Management
Working at Kohls in enjoyable.
Pros
Kohl's strives to allow management and associates achieve work and life balance with generous vacation plans, birthdays off, and flexible scheduling.
Cons
Kohl's is very cautious and very consistent in applying HR policies across the nation. This can make coaching an associate cumbersome as you go through the channels to make sure your actions are consistent across the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue listening to the field work force. Encourage the support systems in place for stores to remember stores are their customer and should treat them as such.
Pros
I enjoy working at Kohl's only because I'm well liked among my co-workers and customers. I am NOT a people person, but people like me for some reason. I do get crack customers still, but I could only imagine how much worse it could be. My co-workers are also generally a pleasure to be around...which keeps me from shoving a hanger through my eye on bad days.
Cons
In the store I'm currently at, the communication is TERRIBLE. Nearly daily, I'm given a task from one manager/supervisor, I'll be 15-20 minutes into that task, and another manager/supervisor will come by and ask me why I'm doing what I'm doing, tell me to stop, and give me another task. Also, I am trained to do EVERYTHING in my store besides customer service, I have 14 hours of availability 5 days a week, but I still get basic hours right along with people will less availability and less knowledge of the various positions in the store. On top of that, which could go without saying, the pay doesn't hold you to this job. People stay at Kohl's because, 1.) they're working to fill time, they don't NEED the money, 2.) they can't get a better paying job (or Kohl's is one of 2 or, at one point for me, THREE jobs they have), 3.) they can deal with the pay and they stay because of the people they work with.
Advice to Senior Management
COMMUNICATION! My store started a "communication book" for the upstairs (Home and Kids, Shoes) and I've been pestering the downstairs (MJM, jerwerly) to follow suit. Also, Kohl's needs to place good employees higher than the bad or even average employees. I know I'm tired of getting the same amount of hours AND PAY as someone who "no call, no shows" shift after shift, or same pay as someone who can only work one position in the store, when I can work ALL BUT one, or the same amount of hours as someone who spend 1/3 of their shift standing around and talking and not working. It shouldn't be an even playing field. The the good workers should be rewarded with more hours.
Pros
The management was always friendly and called each associate by name. The company provided a cake each month in honor of the birthday's for that month, so that was very nice. The associate discount was also nice.
Cons
The pay wasn't very good. It was basically minimum wage with retail experience. There was always a push from management to get customers to sign up for Kohl's charge cards, but that's every department store. I was never scheduled for enough hours combined with the low pay.
Pros
Great Benefits
Good Management and Chain-of-Command
Decent Pay
Good Hours (Mon - Fri, business hours)
Huge place with HUGE cafeteria offering everything you could imagine
Day flys by due to busy pace
Up-to-date computer applications
Method for everything - if you can follow directions, you can do your job!!!
Cons
Computer monitors are small for some of the professions that otherwise could do better with larger
Set-up in cubicles not always ergonomically satisfactory (can slouch easily/hurt shoulders/neck from the way things are set up... so I get creative :) )
Advice to Senior Management
n/a all is good :)
