Pros
~15% off merchandise 30% off on associate shopping days
~Clean Sales Floor
~Some associates who work with you can make the time pass a little faster
Cons
~Unrealistic expectations of what needs be done by the closing team
~Minimum wage ALWAYS for new employees, minuscule raises every year < 30 cents.
~Store is gossip city, will walk in hearing people talk bad about you behind your back.
~Workload is enormous some nights, they expect you to work at lighting fast pace
~Managers for the most part do absolutely no work and give little to no direction. There are a few exceptions however.
~Soliciting credit is a pain.
~Managers do not know how to schedule employees
~Closing team have to stay longer then scheduled in order to finish.
~Sales floor back up on cash registers sometimes for half an 8 hour shift and are still expected to have their department and fitting rooms looking pristine by the end of the night.
Advice to Senior Management
Hire more cashiers to solve the need for backup to be called every 15 minutes and hire an extra associate within harder to recover departments to build team morale as the workload would be cut in half and everything getting done on time instead of worrying so much on making payroll. You guys pay everyone the minimum anyway. Also become more competent.
Pros
Timely communication about the status of company with in the competitors.
Cons
The salary range is not competitive to the market.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to look at career of employee as well
Pros
-Flexible hours (in general)
-Okay discount
Cons
-Too pushy about credit
-Poor management, does not listen to anything you say, have to tell them 3+ times to get through to them
Pros
-Great discount and associate shopping days
-Awesome co-workers mostly
-Commission from achieving credit
-"G.R.E.A.T." & Yes We Can Policy
Cons
-Store Hours! Staying open until midnight during holidays is ridiculous
-Credit it shoved down associates throats
-Management fails to communicate with each other and with the associates
-Unable to receive time off that was requested most of the time
-Most of the managers there were incompetent and hid in the offices during their "E3" Shifts
-Kohl's Cash
Advice to Senior Management
Upper management needs to not pick favorites and needs to treat associates fairly. Credit or QC's need to be accomplished by everyone, not just one or two associates. Get out from behind the office in the back to be up front when POS needs your assistance. Practice better communication skills within management, so lower level associates aren't told three different things
Pros
Good benefits package and flexible hours
Cons
Very clicky and lots of gossip to deal with
Pros
It's a job and the people I work with are friendly.
Cons
They pay minimum wage and keep you at low hours. They don't care about the lower level employees.
Pros
The starting pay for a seasonal sales associate it great. Also, seasonal sales associates get 20% off merchandise.
Management and permanent part time associates will help you if you need help. So always ask if you don't know.
Cons
When you are just starting off as a POS associate on a busy Saturday, you will feel overwhelmed.
You have to learn how to work the register quickly, know how to scan coupons correctly, offer scratch off cards to the customers who ask about it, etc.
Advice to Senior Management
I would hire seasonal associates before the busy season to give them enough time to familiarize themselves with the computer.
Pros
Kohl's is usually clean and has great clothes to look at. It's fun finding discounted items and getting things at a great price.
Cons
They do not schedule enough staff on hand. If someone calls out the others have to pick up slack.
Advice to Senior Management
Managers at this location need to work on building relationships with employees and encourage relationships between employees. There is a clear need for team building here.
Pros
They have a lot of jobs in local area's. They are no better or worse than any other retailers in the industry.
Cons
The hours are not flexible, there is no where to go but sideways and getting any needed time off is difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
Be creative! Do job sharing where two people work out their schedule between them and are interactive as to which one works when.
Pros
Great work life balance for a retail organization. Company is constantly updating which keeps things very fresh.
Cons
Reviews were not supported or detailed. You could easily get stuck in a position without knowing why you weren't being promoted even if you begged for the information.
There was very little transparency. Candid conversations were rare. Popularity not ability dictated your career path.
Advice to Senior Management
Be honest with your employees.
