I worked at Kohl's as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Overall, not a bad employment experience. This was my first exposure to retail, so I was a little nervous. But, the interview & hiring process went smoothly. Was on the tail end of seasonal hiring, so my first day after "training" was Thanksgiving Night. Talk about baptism by fire, right? Anyway, it went well & I began to fit into things pretty well. By the end of my contract in January I was averaging 12 hrs. a week & didn't have to work on Christmas/ Christmas Eve either!

    Cons

During my interview & at orientation various management emphasized how there would be 10-15 PT positions available after our seasonal contracts expired. But, there ended up being NONE. Zero. Zilch. Nada. That was kind of a bummer, I felt like I got ripped out of my job right as I was getting in the swing of things. Additionally, when I consulted the store manager for any advice he basically said "Look, you were a great employee, etc. In fact, we're happy to give you a great reference, etc. But, when we hired all you seasonal employees it turns out we mis-calculated our employee numbers, and had OVER HIRED for the holidays." So, there was NO WAY they could have hired any of us on PT anyway! But, I digress. The hours sucked as well, there was WAY too much time on your feet. I almost passed out a couple times because I was so tired/over-worked.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please encourage all employees, especially seasonal, to ask more questions. Don't discourage anyone when you feel that they're "asking too many questions," as I was. Also, update your scheduling software if possible. It had the tendency to be spastic in formulating schedules, especially for seasonal employees. Finally, don't be so impersonal with seasonal employees or so crazy about getting Kohl's Charges. If felt to me that I was just another gear in the machine, & was pressured to solicit for Kohl's credit cards shamelessly.

I have been working at Kohl's part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

My position at kohl's in part time. I needed part time when I moved back to Indiana. Now I am available for a full time position. I have and associates degree in Business Administration.

    Cons

This position is not a full time position. My hourly rate is not what I would prefer. My current position can sometimes be very stressful if you have a unhappy customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to have better communication with employees. Pay raises need to be based on each employee, not on the whole store.
