I have been working at Kool Smiles part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I was able to go to college and complete my degree while working at Kool Smiles for three years. I really enjoyed the staff that I had the opportunity to work with. I had to relocate, otherwise, I would still work there

    Cons

Low pay, not a lot of room for growth (hence my relocation), high turn over rate

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    My manager was awesome!

Money hungry, patient care was compromised.

I worked at Kool Smiles part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great place to start off a career as it was a simple working environment, doing only fillings, pulps and sscs.

    Cons

Besides being paid below the average, kool smile WILL hire anyone, people with felonies, warrants out and people on probation. They have a high turnover rate because they don't care about their employees only about how much revenue they bring in, because of this patient care is compromised.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay more attention to you employees and what they have to say instead of shrugging it off.

I have been working at Kool Smiles full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

There is some opportunity for advancement, though limited. Unfortunately, too many times the brownest nose gets the position.

    Cons

Work/life balance is way off. Limiting time the employees can take PTO is unreasonable, especially when upper management can take off whenever they want.
The doctors in the offices need some RESPECT. They are the ones fueling this ship.
Adjust the SAturday schedules, management doesn't work why should we.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let's get back to what we did best. You can not be all things to all people. Having the adult and kids in the same office is a bad thing. Being a good referral source for our local specialists can and will further our standing in every community and it is what is best for our patients. XS is not working in most markets.
The doctors who are seeing patients in the office need some respect. Without them, we are nothing.
OM should have dental experience/knowledge when they come to us.
GEt rid of the bonus system. Let's all do our best with a competitive wage, not be swayed by some bonus.

I worked at Kool Smiles full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work schedule, excellent training, outdoor breaks & walks around the building are great when the weather permits.

    Cons

Racism, Petty employees, high noise level, little to no room for constructive criticism without backlash from superiors and other employees. This company prefers quantitative over qualitative effort and work, which often leaves great room for error and leads to work not being distributed evenly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management has lots of personal issues that they often bring to work & creates disruption and severely affects productivity overall.

Current Employee - Community Relations Specialist in Pontiac, SC
Current Employee - Community Relations Specialist in Pontiac, SC

I have been working at Kool Smiles full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working in the community on a grassroots level, i.e. public housing, PTA meetings, parks, retail outlets, festivals, etc. Helping Medicaid parents provide a valuable service for their kids.

    Cons

Unrealistic goals. Went from "community awareness" and 15 weekly appointments to 50+ appointments per week - rain, shine, sleet, snow and on holidays.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your community relations specialists should not just pump out appointments but actually educate parents. The CRS should be responsible for no more than 25 appointments per week and 4 events a month.
