Pros
Discounted Kroger Brand groceries.
Bakery smells good.
The economy is rough. It's a job.
It was nice to help the regular customers.
Vacation/Holiday pay.
Cons
Lack of respect from management.
Low pay. (ending pay after 2yrs was $7.55 hr)
Too much gossip.
Pressured to push products that customers do not want/need. (to the point of insanity)
No opportunity to advance after requesting repeatedly.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees better. This is a job, not a prison. There are people in your store that are very skilled and talented that aren't being given opportunities to advance. Trust your employees more or be more selective in who you hire because the gap between management and your employees is very wide and neither one trusts the other.
You have a lot of problems to resolve soon or else you will lose your best people.
Pros
Great benefits! Insurance is cheap but good. Hours are flexiable. Payed holidays.
Cons
Company expects to much paperwork to be completed. Co-managers are lacking in business skills, but still think they know more about each dept. than the employees that have worked at the stores 10, 20 30 + years.
Advice to Senior Management
Train your managers in depts. This will help them and us the little people on the totum pole!!!
Pros
Company name looks great on your resume.
You have the chance to learn a lot from such an established company.
Company has manufacturing plants at locations all over the country.
Aged mid-level and senior management staff which should open up opportunities for growth soon.
Cons
Old school management style with all of the screaming, threatening and cursing.
Nepatism runs rampid in this company.
It is all about who you know in order to advance in this company.
If you do too good of a job in your position, you can get "stuck" there by your manager because they may not want to have to replace you if you advance on to anther position.
Unfortunately if you are not an Ohio State grad you will have a more difficult time advancing in the company. Lots of promoting because of job tenure instead of job skills, experience and education.
Lots of young educated production supervisors leave the company in less than two years because they see no room to advance.
Pay compensation for management is below industry average.
Advice to Senior Management
Please nurture your young and educated talent so that the company will have seamless transitions of leadership down the road. You may find that you have to side step middle management to find your hidden gems(those with potential to become managers) who sometimes have so much potential working on your front lines and in the trenches. Your middle management sometimes hide those gems because they are just that precious. If you do not find them and nurish them then some other company will.
Pros
Pay was better with experience which luckily I had
Cons
Supervisors treated new people and others unfairly.Management had their favorites, and if you weren't one of them you were there just to fill a shift. One supervisor decided to make your work life miserable. The store I worked at was in one of the worst parts of town.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to train supervisors sensitivity training.
Pros
i like meeting different people
Cons
they don't care for employees
Advice to Senior Management
like they say, if the wife isnt happy nobody is happy, so if employee is not happy, no one will be happy.
Pros
An opportunity to make money. considered a job, not a career. multiple benefits. Days requested off will usually be given to.
Cons
Minimum wage starting pay. Baggers receive a 5 cent raise after 1 year. Cashiers Recieve a 5 cent raise every 6 months. Customer service pay is same as cashiers, but has more/higher responsibilities. ALL employees must be available on weekends.
Advice to Senior Management
Acknowledge and reward the employees that want to get work done, more often. The ones that greet, smile, engage, and thank. Its not all about the customer 1st strategy.
Unhappy employees = Unhappy customers.
Pros
Good insurance
Like most of my co-workers
Satisfied with my store management
Cons
Very low wages and no chance of getting merit raises for good work
Corporate office is full of incompetent people that have lost touch with good business practices
Do poorly at designing and implementing any new programs - most don't work well
Advice to Senior Management
Bring back merit raises with restrictions that will prevent abuse
Raise starting pay for each position below management level by at least 50-60 cents
Quit striving to centralize and micro control all stores and each department because stores serve different clientele and therefore should not operate the same way across the board. Let them have a little more flexibility to meet specific clientele needs.
Pros
It's a nice place to work. Most of the people are very nice. The discount is nice and the fuel points are good. It's pretty secure, people need to buy food, so there is work even in a bad economy. It's pretty cool that they have a union.
Cons
The hours vary, sometimes you get fewer hours or sometimes the hours are odd.
Advice to Senior Management
The air-conditioning shouldn't be controlled from Houston; the main store managers should be able to control the temperature of the air-conditioning in the store. Also, I'm not sure how well these computers with the yellow balls on the screen are working because this morning the computer in our store said there were no registers open and there was at least one open.
Pros
friendly coworkers
cool supervisors
challenging work
multiple chances and opportunities to advance in ranks
Cons
low pay
no teamwork
unfair in judgement
no credit for hard work
Advice to Senior Management
i think you should honestly work on getting workers at kroger to be a team spirited and fun bunch. work doesn't always have to be so serious.
Pros
Discounts
Uniform provided
Customer Relationships
Recognition for customer comments
Company contributes to many charitable causes in the community
Cons
Pay for hourly not comparable with level of work
Expectations unrealistic for number of employees scheduled
Advice to Senior Management
Train your first line managers to reflect the overall desires of the company
