Pros
Pay
Experience
Possibilty of Advancement
Job Security/Stability
High Reputation
Great benefits!!!
Cons
No work-life balance
No support in continuing education for Co-Managers
Red Management from upper management
It is not what you know, but who you know
Advice to Senior Management
Pay attention to those who work hard but may not know anyone to pull them up the ladder. Provide better work/life balance for Co-Managers as well as opportunities for them to further their education. Follow up with new Management trainees to ensure that they are receiving the support they need to be successful and most importantly, watch who you put and/or keep in Management. This could be the reason for high turnover rates.
Pros
The benefits are awesome. Yearly raises based on performance review is ok.
Great bonus potential for managers.
Cons
Some people are DM and should not be, some people still have management jobs and should not. Union rules make it hard to weed out bad eggs and make it difficult to allow quality employees to shine. If we had less losers hanging on to their jobs..the hours spent would yield better results from the remaining star employees.
The company is huge....and is doing well but trying to run it
Some expectations are unrealistic.
no bonuses for the associates.
Advice to Senior Management
Kroger is huge and is doing pretty well. However trying to run the business lean may not be best in the long run. Not only do we expect more out of our associates for minimum wage we expect it in less time.
The company has made some phenomenal changes in comparison to the competition and employees and customers notice. Continue to use the communication tools you have in place (cultural council...ask rick, etc). Solve issues raised by associates but let people know you heard them right away not 5 years later when you roll out a solution to a problem.
Pros
- Something different to do every day
- Friendly co-workers (same level as me or "below" me)
- We don't have to sit at a desk behind a computer all day long
Cons
- We work 52 hours a week but are only paid for 40 hours
- District manager does not answer e-mails
- No praise for a job well done
- NO weekends off unless on vacation
- Hard to even get 2 days off in a row
- Raises are capped at 2%
- This is not a fair wage for the job that we do
- Many rude and "rough" customers to deal with, especially depending on the neighborhood. I have been spit on, a customer tried to punch me, and it can just be dangerous sometimes
Advice to Senior Management
- Give us some days off, PLEASE
- Realize that we have families and things we would like to do outside of work
- With only 2 co-managers in a store, we don't get any days off
- Working 6 days a week is no way to have a work life balance.
Pros
Get Paid weekly. Scholarships was offered to employees for college assistance.
Cons
Middle man management was horrible! Everyone wanted to delegate, also no sense of Hierarchy.
Pros
Paid breaks, simple, easy, entertaining, keeps you busy, can be fun, pulling in carts can be easy, making friends, late night is really relaxed.
Cons
Management can be rude, if a Courtesy Clerk slacks, the rest of the Courtesy Clerks feel it, minimum wage, if you are after school, calling in is impossible, promotions are rare and when you do have one it is not worth it.
Advice to Senior Management
Store management: cut us some slack. This is one of the better entry-level jobs, but that does not mean you can take advantage of that 32 hours on a school week? Please!
Corporate: Nothing much really to say about them... Thanks for the extra discount perks.
Pros
Hard work and dedication to their product movement will assist you in moving into more responsibility. They offer excellent benefits or did when I was employed with them.
Cons
The balance of work and home life was very skewed when working in management. Expect long hours to be the norm and possibly to be on call 7 days a week.
Advice to Senior Management
I would have liked to seen more professional improvement opportunities to fulfill a greater potential, but overall I feel they reward their hardest workers.
Pros
Great place to work, love the customers and is comfortable.
Cons
Once you get to a certain level, moving on in the company doesn't look attractive.
Advice to Senior Management
Make the pay increase and the benefits of going into management more attractive.
Pros
free health benefits 20+ hours a week maintained. 401 k PTO 5 weeks max.
Cons
Once promoted and out of the union you are easily discarded
Advice to Senior Management
grow a pair
Pros
Very Flexible, Decent Pay, Great Benefits
Cons
Not much room for growth in the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Allow for employees to grow inside the company
Pros
It's a good company, seems organized, not that bad on pay but could be better. Benefits are nice and compare evenly.
Cons
Lack of trustworthy staff, some managers feel like they need to puppy guard but most are very easy to work with and make the job fun.
Advice to Senior Management
Some of the campaigns don't really make sure, like the surveys employees take, the results are never communicated and its nice to know they are hearing what we say.
