ok. better than other retail stores.

Manager (Current Employee)
Toledo, OH

I have been working at Kroger

Prosbenefits, cleanness, customers, extra hours, the employees that work there are overall nice and easy to get along with. Thats all.

ConsYou have to work long hours or barely any hours if you are paid on an hourly basis. If you are salary sometimes you can work up to 70 hours a week for the same pay as 40.

Advice to Senior ManagementMake it easier for your educated workers to move up the ladder. Education should play a bigger role than seniority.

Great position for growth, but long hours and a little too much stress

Process Change Manager (Current Employee)
Cincinnati, OH

I have been working at Kroger

ProsGreat autonomy, good people (young and pretty smart), great top leadership that are grounded, nice to move to different projects each year, great ability to leverage a whole bunch of skills (lean, six sigma, stats, math, business, strategy, etc.).

ConsToo political. Too aggressive of cost reductions and deadlines, which forces teams to scramble and stress out. Travel is heavy at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementStart doing what is right for the customer, and don't worry so much about squeezing labor. Fund longer term projects that will have a bigger impact on the business long term. Let the group focus on internal processes, and not just store operations.

Don't like it

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Cincinnati, OH

I have been working at Kroger

ProsYou get a discount for sure! I love that part. Also, it is fun getting to talk with customers throughout the day.

ConsIt is really boring sometimes just standing around. The pay isn't that great for what you do, and I am not very passionate about our product.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou definetely have great leadership. This just isn't the place that I would want to work I guess. I rather work somewhere else.

Frozen Food Manager

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
Indianapolis, IN

I have been working at Kroger

ProsRegular Schedule
Semi Flexible Time Off
Store Management is competent
Short commute
Co workers that are good to work with for the most part

ConsVery physical job
Not enough hours in the department to keep up
Senior management not moving the company forward in the right direction

Advice to Senior ManagementThe bottom line of the grocery business is customer service. Having the product the customer wants and offering assistance to make a pleasant shopping experience. This is nearly impossible to achieve when senior management is more concerned about paperwork than they are about putting enough associates in their stores.

Kroger

Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

I have been working at Kroger

ProsIt's a very good first job. With time and energy, you can make it into a career. It is what you make it - and it's been wonderful for me.

ConsIn my experience, I've had to stay strong and put up with a lot of b-s from my co-workers who aren't open to any sort of change. There's quite a bit of drama with the younger employees. Those are the only two cons though.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to them is to truly listen to what their employees are saying and to not come down too hard on them all them time.

Working for Kroger

Kroger (Former Employee)
Memphis, TN

I worked at Kroger

ProsThe pros for working at Kroger was being able ti get the customer experience along with getting out of my comfort zone.

ConsThe cons for working at Kroger is the management was horrible. The Systems where constantly changing without any explanation. Kroger often times would change their hours without telling their employees and then writing them up.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy Advice to management would be this. Just because everything isn't going write dosen't mean that the employee's are to be blame. Sometimes the new systems don't always work. As well as this Give your employee's more credit then constantly waiting for them to fail. If you see something wrong instead of yelling about it and pointing fingers, step back and find away to help.
