    Management vs employees

Former Employee - Floor Supervisor in Nashville, TN

I worked at Kroger full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

This store was in a relatively high end area of Nashville, TN, and catered to an upscale populous. The management tried to work closely with their customer base as well as employees. Incentives were offered on a continual basis to inspire trust and a good working environment.

    Cons

The greatest challenge at this job was the entire disregard of the store employees for management. Most of the store employees had been in position for many years and refused to embrace any kind of change.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

My advice to management would be to transfer out as many of the old guard as possible, and establish trust and rapport with the remaining employees.

I worked at Kroger part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

A lot of the time you'll be able to chat with other employees or supervisors. You can get promoted pretty fast. They are unionized which makes it extremely hard to get fired.

    Cons

Dealing with rude customers. Supervisors can get power happy. Pay is practically minimal. Unequal treatment. Not actually based through seniority. Can only work up to forty hours or 5 days a week.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees better and equal. Don't try and seek out all opportunities to write someone up unless need be. Try and provide better pay.

I have been working at Kroger

    Pros

Friendly customers . Flexible shift. Advancement opportunities. Worked around school schedules. Coworkers were extremely helpful and management wanted me to succeed.

    Cons

The company is Union, I personally had issues with that. I also didn't like the way the computers wrote the schedules. The training was ok.

I have been working at Kroger full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

This is an excellent company to work for. An HSA plan is offered for health benefits and you get very reasonable time off for vacation and personal holidays. Job security is very stable with this company since Kroger provides grocery products. Even in a troubled economy, people still have to eat.

    Cons

Since we are a 24x7 operation, sometimes we have to work on the weekends, which is not good for work-life balance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Kroger needs to get their pay scale for managers in line with other similar employers. Especially in the IT category, pay is not nearly as much as other companies.

I have been working at Kroger part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Technicians are apart of Local UFCW. Years of experience builds seniority for advancement opportunities and increase in pay with three levels of technician training (Tech 1, Tech 2, Tech 3). Receive compensation (raises) for each successful pass of level achievements. Pharmacist are professional and educate proficiently.

    Cons

Some fellow workers may be difficult to work with (comes with any job). Pharmacy goals to achieve can sometimes be reached but may be difficult due to limitation in technician work hours.
