I have been working at Kroger

    Pros

Pay reflected cost of living in the area.
    Opportunities to advance in company.
    Upper management was great.

    Cons

Did not like overnight hours, they went too far into the morning.
Being in a grocery store just was not for me.
It is hard to handle doing 5 night shifts in a row, couldn't have a life.

    Advice to Management

Upper management was great, but some of the management for the different parts of the stores were definitely not up to par as it should have been.

    Pros

Kroger has flexible scheduling, decent pharmacy Hours, Job security, good benefits including paid vacation for part-time, and an employee discount along with other work perks.

    Cons

Although you continually get raises, the pay is low for certain job titles, however others pay really well. Unless you are full-time your schedule isn't too consistent.

    Advice to Management

Be involved. Do your job. Take care of your employees. Have an open door where employees can be heard and want to speak up.

    Pros

    Flexible schedules, great co-workers and

    Cons

Unruly customers from time to time, and minimum wage based on the labor required is a little short changed compared to its competitors but it's not a deal breaker

    Pros

Pretty cool workers for the most part, work is easy, good for high school students and college kids. The work discount is very helpful.

    Cons

Management demands you do twenty jobs at once if you are not them, some workers can get lazy and you may have to pick up the slack, terrible hours at times.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees; if they need something done or fixed, do something.

    Pros

It is a great place to get retail experience.

    Cons

Not very good with communication and credibility.
    Unfair verbal harassment.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees concerns, especially when they are expressing the fact that they are having to clean up after others daily. This is unfair because there is no concern/acknowledgment of the request for management to address the appropriate source of problems that are affecting the hard working employees that are trying to do the job.

    Pros

You don't have to work too hard if you have any kind of work ethic at all.

    Cons

Low pay---union job. All the union does is make sure everyone stays the same and of course collect their dues so they can send newsletter's telling the rank and file what a great job they're doing. One year 40% of the raise they negotiated for me went to increased union dues. The weak don't get cut from the herd and and the strong get the reins pulled back on them.

    Advice to Management

I worked for them in Nevada and Kentucky, Nevada is non union and Kentucky is union. I believe management is non union in both locations and management is roughly equivalent in both states however the rank and file is much stronger in Nevada. Advice is to dump the union in Kentucky and let those who work excel and pay them and those that don't go work for WalMart.
