I worked at Kudelski full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Innovative industries are it's focus. Some brilliant people. A good percentage of their products are industry leading. A long storied history of technical innovation.

    Cons

Unable to grasp longer term trends. Does not invest in it's various divisions. Does not invest in it's people. It was very quick to embrace USA employment advantages (i.e. no 'European' benefits for the Americans). They are no longer truly innovative. They have a very serious case of innovators dilemma (unable to destroy their existing/dying business to replace it with what's competitors are coming at them with from the outside). A dying company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take more chances. Invest more in your future and less in maintaining just the present.

    Pros

operate in leading edge field, fighting against the most innovative companies like Apple, Google, Netflix and Amazon.
long term focus, capable of seeding money in long term investments

    Cons

family business where loyalty is #1 reason for promotion. Laziness and bad decision (or worse, no decision at all) shall be punished and fresh blood bring in to fuel innovation.
Sr. management is scared to kill the cow.. very little industry vision.
typical use case of Innovator Dilemma.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Sr. management accountability!

I have been working at Kudelski full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

A great place for leaning about settop box technology end to end. Very competitive environment and gives a good feel of small company working on real customer projects.

    Cons

HR policies are less flexible and hard to adapt if you are from an bigger companies which are much more flexible. For example: Foreign travel policy, leave management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should encourage more team work than individual performance. No recognition for helping other teams. Also management should focus on quality and achieve high CMM level certification.

    Pros

You get the oppurtunity to improve by being exposed in all conceivable dangers and bad practices.

    Cons

The company represents an exemplary case of a what investors would call a COW at the ending stages of its life. Being sustained from a continuously shrinking market, efforts have been made to extend the market segment to the far east but have failed. Efforts to launch some new units seem more focused in presentation than innovation.

    - Bozo explosion
    - Extremely hierarchical
    - Corridor management
    - Company politics
    - Finger pointing culture
    - Ill-defined company culture

    Pros

A true leading pioneer in a very exciting industry, excellent benefits even for Switzerland and a strong ethos that gels teams together

    Cons

The skills developed in most roles may be too specific to be reused in other companies and industries, limiting career options somehow. This is however less the case with their new Cyber Security unit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make teams smaller and more agile to better resist inevitable future changes in the industry

I worked at Kudelski full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a small handful of good managers, I've had the opportunity to work for at least one.

    Cons

Those who work hard and get things done are often penalized by longer working hours and lower compensation, while those who tend to screw around and get nothing done are rewarded with promotions. Management is often completely deaf to the needs of the engineers.

I have been working at Kudelski

    Pros

Friendly, supportive and well paid for the region. Excellent pension. Good christmas and summer parties with all expenses paid. The company is happy to spend money on resources such as text books. Free tea, coffee, cakes, biscuits and weekly deliveries of fruit.

    Cons

Communication from senior management to other staff members is limited. Employees don't generally know what they are going to be doing more than 2-4 weeks in advance. There is a three month notice period. The IT department is unhelpful and can be a serious bottleneck when it comes to support. Individual goals are not set for employees. There seems to be frequent emphasis on working evenings and weekends with non consistent reward for doing so.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Tell staff what is going on more reguarly. Let staff know what future plans are further in advance.
