Pros
A lot to learn, people are helpful, the management is also helpful and made the initial hiring process very fast, transfer opportunities accross offices
Cons
The location was somewhat far considering they locate branches by airports or seaports, work can get somewhat transactional at times
Advice to Senior Management
Overall keep the hiring processes fast and straightforward, continue to show interns the growth opportunities and potential, also highlight transfer opportunities
Pros
benefits and relaxed atmosphere, diverse backgrounds
Cons
not much internal promotion is considered
Pros
Good work environment
Broad exposure to a variety of industries
Supply chain management is primary focus
Cons
Ambiguity in work assignments
Organizational structure is under development
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to develop internal organization.
Pros
+ excellent opportunities for professional growth - if you work hard and know your stuff you can go far
+ friendly co-workers
+ excellent work environment
+ reasonable benefits package
+ global network (opportunities to travel or work abroad)
Cons
+ some promotions seem undeserved - like "this person's a problem, so let's promote them out of the group"
+ in certain cases management positions are hired from outside instead of promoted from within
+ very political corporate cultural
+ compensation seems to be on the low end of the industry, especially considering what is expected of the employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Not much, I've been very satisfied. If anything I would recommend cutting some of the "dead-weight" and paying more to the quality employees who are getting the work done.
Pros
Global company with an entrepreneurial approach. Great brand recognition in the industry, but specifically in Europe. Ranking as #1 sea freight forwarder, etc... Pretty good work life balance. I work in sales area, so I'm able to "compensate" myself during slower periods to make up for heavy deliverable dates. I can't speak from a branch or operations point of view. Most of the sea and air logistics employees seem to be pretty standard 7-3/ 9-5 type hours. The company is very strong financially. No worry that you'll lose your job because the company folds.
Cons
Three things: European roots, every business unit for itself, lack of coordinated geographic or cross-business unit strategy. The company is strongest (market presence/share) in Europe. In the US., you better get used to explaining "what you do" to people because saying, "I work for Kuehne + Nagel" will get you nothing but blank faces. The company doesn't believe in marketing, either. Depending upon the type of job/role you have, it could come and go with a particular client's business. In other words, if KN wins an account with Company A and hires you...when Company A no longer wants to have KN as a logistics service provider, you better be ready to find another job. This doesn't occur 100% of the time, but the company does flex up and down on the workforce quickly.
Advice to Senior Management
Communication. I've worked for several large organizations, but never one where I heard so infrequently from national and global leaders. I couldn't pick our national leadership team out of a line up to save my life. I'm not asking to be on your distribution list for every emails, but it might be nice to get a quarterly update and now where your minds are at other than just the "we're raising healthcare premiums letter."
Pros
International company with many divisions for opportunity.
Cons
Management is non-existant, do not get sucked into the 3PL side of the company.
Advice to Senior Management
Not much, the structure is to squeeze the life out of its employees on the 3PL side.
Pros
Is a transnational Company
Has good benefits
Cons
Is not a company that cares about technology
Is seams like if KN was a finace company with a logistics jobby
Pros
the possibility of international transfers, a learning network with leadership development, high investment in IT innovations, well known reputation, global network
Cons
weak human recourses, weak sales, business unit silos, political games, national and global strategies not communicated by middle management to the workforce
Pros
The benefits are great compared to other companies.
Cons
The glass ceiling is so thick that it is impossible to break! Managers are only in their positions due to experience in shipping - NOT because they know how to lead people.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn how to manage people! There are free classes you can take to improve your leadership skills.
Pros
The pay is on par for what is expected in today's work environment.
Cons
Management is all backstabbing and i guess now hearing everything about said company I don"t blame them. This is a company that brings you in to do a job but does not give you the support you need. But when and if you take it upon yourself to try to help the team and accomplish upper managements goals, you are walked out the door.
I was with this company from the start of its new project and had outragous task placed in front of me. I took the appropriate steps to not only coordinate but to get help in meeting these goals. The company upper mangement would not help! So in order for me not to fail, I made things happen! I was not praised for my actions but instead frowned upon and eventually walked out the door. I was not trying to take anyones position and in fact was in the top position for my respected field. Dedication and hard work mean nothing to these people. they are interested in only themselves and how to cover for ones self. In fact other jobs have told me I shouldnt even put them down on my resume'
During my time with this company I watched alot of people come and go as if it was nothing, good people mind you.
Advice to Senior Management
H.R. needs to grow a pair and realize that they are there for the worker and not just to fire someone every time management says. Management itself needs to be responsible for their actions. alot of people are let go due to managements backstabbing procedures.
