  1. Has been a good working experience. It seems to me that if you work hard that will be recognized.

    Pros

In general, hard work is recognized and rewarded. It can sometimes be challenging if you have to work in a remote location but overall the island life outweighs any downsides.

    Cons

This is not a large company so the insurance is not bad but certainly not top notch. Also you can't really plan to work there forever since this company was formed just for a single government contract.

    Advice to Management

Be stronger to implement higher competitive salaries. Also allow people to take lower level positions to get in with the company to transition to higher payed jobs. Currently there is a max pay increase you can have. For instance if you get employed as a entry level position and in reality you are a higher level. You cannot easily get that higher level position with the salary mid point because they won;t allow your pay to increase by that amount.

  2. Not a real company

    Pros

Good at safety as long as you don't get hurt or it doesn't require them paying for something to keep you safe.

    Cons

Not a real company. An LLC formed to compete for a contract by Bechtel and Lockheed. They will only hold the contract until 2018 at which time they will be dissolved back into their respected companies and the employees will be, either let go or absolved by the incoming contractor.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your employees. The benefits you offer are terrible. Offer a better 401k and give real tuition reimbursements. It would not hurt to allow employees a cafeteria plan also. If you really care about safety then stop firing people for getting hurt by other's stupidity. Create a real safety program that involves the employees as part of the decision making process. Give employees incentives for being safe rather than "We'll fire you for not being safe."

    Pros

401K Opportunity, SCUBA Diving, Surfing, Snorkeling, warm weather all year around, lunch with family every day for one hour, 5% Marshall Island taxes instead of the higher US taxes.

    Cons

    Micro managing is overlooked
Peter principle advancement - many managers are in over their heads
School bullying - the school refuses to admit there is any problem and yet people keep leaving because of it.
    slave wages for Marshallese nationals
lack of fresh vegetables and fruits - the ones you purchase go bad within days
running out of specific items of food (dairy and fruits frequently)
no place to shop for clothes or various items (personal items) except online
mail is frequently delayed or cancelled
If you are not a part of the "Elite" clique on island, do not expect to have anything at all resembling a fair life here. Special privileges are given to management families, government families, and those families who are involved in mission oriented work. All others are treated less than fairly or kindly.

    Advice to Management

Your corporate culture is such that you are losing valuable personnel because you have such an unbalanced treatment of your workers. Cut out the hiring of friends who do not have the skills to be in a position, stop offering contracts to people on island if others will not be able to get one. Your company is becoming known for slimy practices.

    Pros

Endless Scuba divng activities, great for family life....not too sure about single life

    Cons

Very challenging work environment and culture to deal with if you are used to dealing with a higher level of work performance on the civilian side.

    Advice to Management

Stop advancing people with the promotion thru attrition mentality. hire qualified people, dont promote folks who dont have the experience to perform managerial duties.

    Pros

There are tons of opportunities to grow, and most management reward hard work. Projects are rewarding, and the benefits are good. While the base pay not seem that great, factoring in the tax free pay, free housing, and if unaccompanied the free meals makes saving money very easy.

    Cons

Facilities are starting to deteriorate on the island. Departments are having to do more with less. The medical services are limited in what they can provide.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees' concerns, and think about the long-term future of the company. Upper management has the perception to a lot of employees of being more focused on themselves and their parent companies (Bechtel and Lockheed Martin) than KRS and it's employees.

    Pros

Great 401k plan and abundant vacation time. Easy-going attitudes and helpful co-workers.

    Cons

There is obvious preferential treatment for some employees who have been with KRS longer than others. Working in a distributed environment between Huntsville and Kwajalein has decreased productivity and communication and increased the financial burden to the company, the government, and the range customer.

    Advice to Management

Time to review the contributions of all employees, especially those who have held their positions for a very long time, and either make adjustments to their salary or insist on showing positive performance results.

    Pros

-It's a great place to save money as your housing and food (if unaccompanied) is provided for you. You are also eligible for tax-fee income.
    -It's on a tropical island.
    -Three weeks paid vacation.
-It's a great place for SCUBA diving, sailing, deep-sea fishing or just soaking up the sun.
-It has a "laid back" work environment. Even management wear tie-dye T-shirts on Friday.
-Hey, did I mention it's out on a tropical island?

    Cons

-Since I had mentioned that it's on a tropical island, it is very remote- about 2100miles SW of Honolulu. Traveling on and off the Island is rather difficult (and expensive), unless you go on your annual leave.
-Infrastructure is minimal: There is no cable service (only six over the air channels), no high speed internet in your residence, filtered internet and land line phone service.
-The people there can be very clique-ish and shallow, which I haven't witnessed since high school.
-You are working on a military installation; even though there are more civilians than uniformed personnel, you still have to play by the Army rules.
-"Kwaj Kids"- the current employees who grew up on the Island as children- have a sense of entitlement. They tend to treat non "Kwaj Kids" like crap.
-Certain employees who have worked there for "eons" have a developed a "Kingdom Mentallity"- which impedes with getting things done.

    Advice to Management

Get with the times. Limit personnel to how long that they can work on the island at one time. Provide more inclusion to personnel who don't do cliques. Need better management- clean house.

Yearly budget cuts and changes to contracts so layoffs every year, you must be on their health insurance as your primary insurance
