Reward those that perform get rid of those that do not.

There were interesting technologies being developed by this company. They have recently moved in to a new, larger, more professional facility.
Cons
While this organization is part of a large defense contractor (L-3), they have not successfully navigated the transition from small/independent company to large/professional organization.
Advice to Senior Management
If you survive your current problems, diversify your workforce more effectively in your next growth phase. Engineers who have diverse backgrounds and broad experience across industry will have more to offer in leadership than they have been allowed to demonstrate thus far.

Good rural area, good people, good opportunites

Contracts come and go which cause layoffs and staff change

Job work load and overall stability fluctuates based on large defense contracts
Relatively high frequency of turnover in Senior management

Work life balance seemed good. At times some very interesting work but other times it was boring depending on the contracts.

Career opportunities limited. Computer policies too limiting. Salary and benefits not competitive. Some very boring and repetitive work to do sometimes.
Advice to Senior Management
Need better integration of companies bought out. Need to give better (more) incentives to lower level engineers (i.e. RSUs).

Flexible hours, just challenging enough

Too much dead weight, politics.
Advice to Senior Management
Kind of hard to change at this point, but people are too comfortable and don't work harder because they know that there is no point. Lots of married with kids employees whose minds are elsewhere.
Pros
Great benefits package, salary is pretty decent and much time to learn new things...the opportunity to work with some very motivated and intelligent people.
Cons
Management not always on the same page or have strategic plan for the future...when continencies arise, management tends to knee-jerk...planning is not their strong suit.

Listen to your people and put folks in charge that understand the business...the Peter Principle is definately in effect.
Pros
Fairly decent benefits including a matching 401K. Easy to leave the job at the office. Manageable workloads. Culturally diverse workplace.
Cons
Very little immediate recourse when problems arise. Human resources is across the continent, and so they have no real feeling for the office culture at my location. Uppermost manager rarely present. Zero growth opps.
Pros
Salaries are nominally higher than other competitors. Stable work environment. Strives to compete in a challenging economy. Contracts are usually involved in fields with advanced technology. Diverse skill sets are employed throughout the company.
Cons
With cuts in the defense budget, benefits have been slowly eroding. Increase in medical co-pays, more years needed for additional leave, less matching in 401k, and decrease in educational benefits.
