    I worked at L.A. Tan part-time

    Pros

Good job to work through college. Easy money, good sales and customer service experience. Easy to make a lot of extra money through good sales techniques and compensation. Young managers that understand school schedules

    Cons

No benefits offered for upper level management, no real potential to move up within the company. Suggestions aren't really taken seriously or put into action

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to daily employees. They are there the most often and know what needs to be done to make the store run on a daily basis

I worked at L.A. Tan part-time for less than a year

    Pros

It was easy to plan life around schedules, since I worked the opening shift. You get free tans and occasionally free lotions too!

    Cons

I was always told by my manager that "the sky is your limit" on salary, but it was all false promises. You get commission and monthly bonuses if you sell enough product, but they take away the opportunity to get a monthly bonus if there is a sale that particular month. And the percentages of commission plus minimum wages are nothing to brag about. I'd say on average I made $10 an hour after commission was added in. I worked at a smaller salon, and mainly saw regulars who didn't need to buy new product. Also, it's hard to work for a company when your other coworkers/management hate their jobs. The cons outweigh any perks. On two occasions my paychecks were falsely written, with commission "accidentally" being omitted. It took over a week for corporate to fix it. On two other occasions my paychecks actually bounced in my checking account after I deposited them, because corporate wrote the checks wrong again, and my bank charged me fees which LA Tan did not make up for.
On top of all that, it was very hard to deal with customer issues. There was an outdated computer system that you could use to email corporate about customer complaints, issues, etc but corporate RARELY fixed any issues and you were left with an angry customer in your salon who you really couldn't help. The branch manager had an office in my location and he would get really annoyed when I tried to ask about fixing any customer issues.

I worked at L.A. Tan part-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Free tanning and discounted lotions

    Cons

HUGE management issues. The managers in my area cheat at getting their PTA through the roof and constantly hound you about yours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No client wants to be consistently bombarded about the type of lotion they use. I feel as if L.A. Tan is going to get a bad reputation by showing clients new lotions every week even though they bought a brand new $80 bottle the week before. It is understood that goals need to be met, but don't get mad at employees for not meeting that goal. Most of them are working a PART TIME job. Not something they went to college for or want a permanent career in.

I worked at L.A. Tan part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It's a very fun environment and there are good bonuses for meeting sales goals. I had a very cooperative and helpful manager who always wanted us to succeed.

    Cons

There is a lot of pressure to sell and it can get pretty competitive between employees. There is also a lot of cleaning involved and dealing with angry customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Since they are all individually owned it gets a little confusing on which salons are running certain sales and customers really get annoyed with that. I wish there was more cohesiveness between salons.
