B&F IC: If you are not a civil engineer, avoid at all costs. Would have rated it with 0 stars if allowed.

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Mumbai (India)

ProsWell, you get a company accommodation near the site you have been posted to.
And depending on the city you are in, it can either be great or absolutely crappy.
The company has a no fire policy, but they don't really need to do that as they will pressurize you enough into leaving it anyway.

    ConsWhere do I start.
Well, as the company is touted as a pinnacle of Engineering, believe me, once you are posted at site, you would need the brain of a mouse to do the work you are assigned. If you are not a civil engineer, be prepared to learn a lot about concrete because that is what the entire company revolves around. Your pleas and requests to be shifted into your own branch will fall on deaf ears. Once you have been assigned to a site, you are its resource, to be used as the management pleases.
That brings me to the quality of the management. The top management at L&T is brilliant. The people are smart and effective, and utterly clueless as to how to solve the problems faced at site. All of them will quote that they worked at site initially, but nobody will say how they never were really posted at site dealing with execution. The management at site are ineffective, lazy and tyrannical at best. Most of them know nothing beyond their lives within the company and have no desire to do so either. As an educated individual from one of the best colleges in the country, it becomes a hassle to deal with seniors who have been so thoroughly washed with the L&T culture, that every different idea you bring to the table will be frowned upon.
Well this is turning into an endless rant.
    Summing up
Joint the B&F IC as a GET/GAT for the following reasons :
    - You love being bonded over a period of time. (2 years or 2 lacs, upto you)
    - You hate having a social life and following your dreams.
    - You want a job that will pay you for standing in the sun and supervise labor day through night.
    - You hate the concept of creating and want to be in a rut for the rest of your life.
If not, and you really want to cultivate a career that will make you successful proud of yourself as an individual, then stay the f*ck away from this company. Heck, its like a BPO without the computers and the ACs.

Advice to Senior ManagementFor the love of God, identify the people you pick out better and utilize them effectively.
Hiring someone with a different set of skills being made to work in something utterly different, is wasting time, money and brains. And have to curtsey to let them know what they are getting into before hiring them under false pretenses and twisted words.
It will benefit your company and the individual equally.
