Former Employee – worked at LAMPS PLUS full-time for less than a year
Pros – It was close to home and store closed at a decent hour on weekends.
Cons – The pay was just over bare minimum; pay scale not clear; was not paid at the guaranteed rate. Did the job of 3 or 4 people. Dirty working conditions. Tiny, filthy lunch area. On feet all day, not allowed to sit. No stools behind sales counter to even lean on. Poor training, lack of leadership in management. Other employees don't like the working conditions either; there is much negativity and complaining and not a happy environment to work in. Not enough computers or registers to help customers, lack of customer service or care. Sales people have to check and pull their own stock from tall ladders and high shelves without being strong enough to carry some of the items down, pull items off ceiling if selling from floor, change and hang price tags continually. Constantly running around store to find a computer to use or to find someone if you need any help. I can go on, but what's the point. Terrible conditions and no way to make a decent paycheck!!
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees, praise them every now & then rather than just let them know their sales aren't high enough. Don't have the sales staff be your liaison, come out of the back and talk with the customers who want to speak with a manager.

Former Employee – worked at LAMPS PLUS full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – If you are not looking for growth in a company this is the company for you. It is a very relaxed atmosphere.
Cons – You wont make a lot of money. There are no promotions. The upper management is too comfortable with their positions.
Advice to Senior Management – Regain the fire. Recognize those with talent.

Former Employee – worked at LAMPS PLUS
Pros – They probably will not go out of business
Cons – No training. No decent lunch spot (rat infested corner of stockroom). No scheduled breaks or lunch, you on your own but if you miss it 4 times in three months they make you take a day off with no pay. Walk until you drop....no sitting except for the managers who seem to find ways to sit it their office. Company lies about in home consultations...many of the people who go out are not ALA as their website states. Managers reprimand people on the floor during business hours.
Advice to Senior Management – Make the Saturday meetings important, not a blow by blow description of failings of the past week. Get excited about new product, point it out and demonstrate.

Pros – The company is financially stable. LampsPlus.com has a talented team of online marketing professionals. Everyone in the online marketing team is capable and gets along with one another. We are all passionate about what we do and bring to the team.
Cons – The employment benefits such as health insurance have room for improvement. The cost of PPO is expensive compared to other companies.
Advice to Senior Management – We need to have a focus group regularly to solicit employee feedback on various topics that are important to employees.

Current Employee – been working at LAMPS PLUS
Pros – People are fun and really know what they are doing. If you know about lighting and how to sway a customer you will be rewarded.
Cons – Complaining customers and people with snotty attitudes will eventually get on your nerves. The customers come in thinking they know everything but want you help as well.
Advice to Senior Management – Give more rewards to reps who are working hard.

Current Employee – been working at LAMPS PLUS
Pros – At least, although obscurely , associated with the interior design field . The hours were terrible , but the pay was horrible .
Cons – The sales person is required to stand on their feet all eight hours . Talking among employees is discouraged and prohibited . Lunch periods are short. The majority of management is from third world countries and has a third world attitude . Salesperson is required to pull orders on a A frame ladder 25 to 30 feet up and bring down merchandise without breaking their neck in a fall . The commission structure is an embarrassment and with the price of gas was not worth the time to go in . It is populated by underacheivers who's goal is to sit around and make more money for the company and exploit employees to the max. After taxes take home was less than $400.00 per week . Sheer desperation is the conditions for employment.
Advice to Senior Management – compensate salespeople with a respectable income if you want to attract and keep the good ones.
