    Pros

The Los Angeles Police Depart offers a great opportunity to anyone seeking a career in Law Enforcement. There is a wealth of experience to gain with a Law Enforcement Agency with over 20 geographical patrol division, serving the greater Los Angeles County. There are also countless specialized, investigative divisions, from which to chose,

    Cons

One obvious negative, is the current perception of Law Enforcement in general. There are some citizen, politician, and media outlets, who will often anticipate the worse and ignore the best.

    Advice to Management

I can honestly say, the Los Angeles Police Department takes extreme pride in the selection and promotion process, when it comes to selection the best qualified managers and supervisors.

I have been working at LAPD full-time

    Pros

Great place to work! A very diverse field with something different going on everyday. I have made a lot of great friends who have my back no matter what.

    Cons

Some people don't respect you. Also it's a big police department so chances of getting promoted can be pretty competitive. You need to outperform your colleagues if you want to stand out from the pack.

    Advice to Management

Remember where you started and Don't forget about the officers. Also when promoting someone make sure they know what the hell they are going to do.

I have been working at LAPD (More than a year)

    Pros

Interesting casework as it is in Los Angeles. Good pace, not over worked.

    Cons

Can be repetitive in tasks. Besides the occasional interesting casework, daily casework is very mundane.

    I worked at LAPD

    Pros

Really had fun on the job.

    Cons

As I had a entry level job things got sort of repetitive at times.

  6. My experience was like a marriage; more good days than bad but in the end a learned experience all the same.

You can do many things as an LAPD Officer that are not the basic patrol functions

    Cons

The leadership is poor and what will get you fired gets them promoted

The field that I work in is interesting but the people in charge make an easy job miserable.

    Pros

The pay and benefits are the best than in amy other company.

    Cons

Management is the worst. Morale is at its all time low.

    Advice to Management

Actually supervise. Reward those who go above and beyond and do the leg work for it. Reprimand those who cannot complete the simplest of tasks instead of just transferring them to make them someone else's problem.

  10. I learned a lot and had some great mentors. The work itself was not very exciting most time.

    Pros

The people who worked here are very nice during my time there I had pretty flexible hours, so that was really nice for me.

    Cons

Sometimes boring paperwork had to be completed by yourself when everyone was doing other things, but other than that, it was fine.

A great job for scientists who don't mind keeping their thoughts within a box

    Pros

Interesting job with great benefits and good pay.

    Cons

Do not expect to be able to able to freely think outside the box. You will be expected to adhere to strict protocols, some of which are a bit antiquated. Technology within this field is changing very rapidly, and while the newer employees appear to embrace this change, management tends to resist it.

    Advice to Management

If this lab had a small group of scientists dedicated specifically to research and validation of new, cutting-edge protocols, I think this could easily become one of the top crime labs in the country.
