I learned a lot but the environment is horrible and management is unqualified.

    Pros

My boss was very flexible with time management. He was not a micro-manager. If I needed to leave early or adjust my hours, he was very accommodating.

    Cons

Where to start: The benefits are pitiful. You get the choice of a cheap high-deductible plan or an expensive PPO. There is no 401(k) match.

The corporate departments, like HR and marketing, are treated like crap by the practice areas. If you're non-billable, you're less than a person. Managing directors are rude, arrogant, and only out for themselves.

Oh, and the company's going bankrupt.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate with your employees more. Stop feeding us optimistic BS when everyone knows the company is going under. To the CMO, quit cow-towing to the practice areas and actually create a strong brand. LECG has no brand and no awareness in the marketplace.

Great colleagues but poor senior leadership

Former Employee - Manager in Philadelphia, PA

    Pros

Very flexible work environment and the overwhelming majority of people I directly interacted with were great. There was very little overnight travel which is rare for the consulting world but I know not everyone would agree with aspect of the job.

    Cons

Senior leadership post LECG / SMART merger was company's downfall. Benefits drastically deteriorate over the years and company sponsored professional development was non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Doesn't really matter at this point as the company has failed. Hopefully Steve's reputation coming out of this situation is tarnished enough so that no other company will need to deal with him.

    Pros

Great People with a lot of great ideas.

    Cons

The great people from above are slowly becoming jaded and not motivated. You have to threaten to leave to be fairly compensated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people actually doing the work. Break up the MD/practice silos. There are a lot of smart people at LECG that do not need to be pigeonholed and can work across practices.

    Change is on the way

    • Comp & Benefits
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Senior Management
    • Career Opportunities
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee  in  Devon, PA
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Devon, PA

    Pros

Work / life balance (for some people)
    Opportunity to move up quickly
Most people are easy to get along with

    Cons

401k is not very good, little matching
Employees have had to quit and come back to get raises, instead of being paid well in the first place or at least get another job offer in writing.
Projects are staffed without the right skill sets
Investments were made in some locations that have not panned out, but we are still funding that sinking ship.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Now that the company has merged, senior management will be making decisions that will make or break many careers (including their own). There is a very steep hill to climb and we are not out of the woods yet.
