I worked at LEO Pharma full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Strong on process and true to their values. LEO UK employ high quality staff and the recruitment process is robust.

    Cons

Layers of hierarchy are very visible and there can be a lot of red tape so decision making is slow. Frequent structural changes can lead to a demotivated and unstable workforce, which affects engagement levels. Many of the "old school" senior management team in the UK lack a great deal of credibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your workforce. Conduct exit interviews.

A formerly very old-school company rapidly moving into the modern times

I have been working at LEO Pharma full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Many of the colleagues are very skilled and there is a nice and helpful team spirit within and even across the different parts of the company. The company launched a growth strategy some years ago, which means that many of the (very) old ways of working are rapidly disappearing and new ones are being tested which means that it is a good place for someone who wants to try new things and new ways of working.

    Cons

The growth strategy initially led to hiring of a lot more employees in a short time and high costs around the company, which was however rather rapidly followed by sacking some of the employees and outsourcing, cost-cutting exercises etc. There may be good reasons for this, but it does look like a lack of a clear long-term strategy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Instead of increasing the size of the top management (they went from 4 to 5 to 6) and doing it almost exclusively with "home grown" people, i.e. people who have been with the company for many years, it would be a good idea with a perhaps slightly smaller top management team, and adding more experienced people from the outside world.

Ambitious growth company with incompetent management

    I worked at LEO Pharma

    Pros

Exciting work tasks, fun colleagues, relative security of employment, ambitious young employees.

    Cons

Management is typically made up of the old guard. They have launched an ambitious growth strategy which they do not understand and can't back up. Inept management cover for each other. The working week is often extremely long with no appreciation or not any kind of adequate pay.

Management micromanages and doesn't trust employees, which decreases motivation. This results in high degree of talent flight which leaves the remaining employees to pull even more weight. Many talented people are hired but don't stay because there ideas are always rejected.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Old guard members of top and middle management needs to step down. You have overstayed your welcome. If LEO Pharma had been a public company you would have been asked to leave long ago.
